My 5 Favorite Just a Girl and Her Blog Room Makeovers

Happy New Year, friends! Can you believe it’s 2016? I feel like it’s going to take me at least a month to stop writing 2015 on everything. 🙂 This has been a week of reminiscing! On Wednesday I shared my top posts from the past year, and today I thought I’d take a look back on some of my favorite room transformations I’ve done on the blog!

Our house is little, so I don’t have 10 rooms to count down, but I do have 5 favorites to share:

5. The Entry

The entry makeover was a byproduct of the kitchen renovation. The two spaces are attached, so when we were sprucing up the kitchen, it made sense to give the entry a little facelift as well. I went with neutral base pieces like the bench and the shelf so that I could easily switch out the accent colors during different seasons or whenever I got bored. {Which, let’s be honest, is more often than I’d like to admit! 😉 }

The entry also holds one of my most favorite organized spaces in our house– the pantry! Since the entry is so close to the kitchen, we did some closet shuffling and now have a big, beautiful pantry to hold all of our stuff!

Finally, this little powder room is also attached to the entry, so I thought I’d include it in the mix. We definitely had the slippery slope effect going on during the kitchen reno, and this space got a little facelift for less than $50!

4. The Cs’ Shared Big Boy Room

I originally gave the Cs’ room an overhaul when they moved into a shared space back in 2013. I did a little updating in 2015 to freshen things up a little bit, and they are still loving it! Someday they may want their own rooms again, but right now they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Their little art station gives them space to create, and we keep a few toys in their room on the ladder shelves, though most of them are stored downstairs in our main living space.

3. The Master Bedroom

I redid our master last spring to make it light, bright, and calming… because with two crazy little boys running around, Donnie and I need all the calm we can get! 🙂 We put up a board and batten accent wall, changed out the bedding, made a new headboard, and painted the dressers. What originally started as a small refresh ended up spiraling into more and more projects… oops! #sorrynotsorry

I truly think that the space is much more “us” now, so even though it meant more work, I’m glad we went ahead with all of the changes. {Which is easier for me to say because many of them involved Donnie doing most of the grunt work. Thank goodness he loves me a lot! 😉 }

2. The Kitchen

I had such a hard time deciding which makeover to put at #1, because these last two rooms are really both my favorites. The kitchen renovation is by FAR the biggest project we’ve ever tackled. And by “we” I of course mean that I picked everything out and Donnie made it happen. {Are we seeing a theme here…?} Our kitchen was so bad that I used to cringe when I walked into it, but not anymore! It may be a small space, but it is certainly one of my most favorite places to be in our home now.

I repainted this little piece of furniture that has acted as a vanity, changing table, desk, and now a kitchen sideboard, and I can’t believe how perfectly it filled that awkward space under the window! This piece actually wasn’t in the original kitchen plan, but one day I pushed it into that spot to get it out of my way and my jaw dropped to the floor; I knew it had found its new home!

The faucet + backsplash area is the shining star in this space, and I just can’t get enough of it! I actually don’t completely dread washing dishes anymore, which is really saying something. 🙂

1. My Fabulously Feminine Home Office

It was close, but I decided to put my home office space in the #1 spot because it is truly my little haven in our home! I love my boys dearly, but sometimes it is nice to just escape to my own space to write and create. This is also the one room in our house that I could make as girly as I wanted without the boys saying, “Ewwwwww!”

I kept everything clean, simple, and uncluttered on purpose. This desk doubles as my workspace and photo staging area, hence the almost completely blank wall. That chair, which I loved, sadly bit the dust a few months ago, and I am still in search of something I love just as much to replace it.

My shelves + pegboard still make me giddy when I walk in the room! I am a bit of an huge organization nerd, so the combination of open shelving and pretty bins is right up my alley. Admittedly, this room is not always this clean, {Creativity is messy, people! 🙂 } but it is still my escape and my favorite place in the house to be.
