Happy Valentine’s Day! I felt like it was only appropriate to share a pretty pink room with you on this day of love! 😉

(Part of me is still shocked that I got away with pink in my house of all boys, but I guess since it’s just the guest room and doesn’t affect their day-to-day lives, they decided to indulge me!)

Pink and White Roses on a Round Gray Nightstand

This is one of those rooms that came together almost through a series of happy accidents. I would pick up a piece here and a piece there, and before I knew it, it was just about finished, so I grabbed the final few details and called it done!

Like most of the rooms in this house, the guest room started out as bare and blank as could be. We basically took our bedroom pieces from our last house (minus the headboard), stuck them in here, and left it like that for a long time.

But every once in a while I would get the itch to spruce up this space a little bit, so after months of adding a piece here and changing a little something there, this is what we ended up with…

Cottage Style Guest Bedroom in Pink, White, and Gray

It’s amazing what a difference a series of small changes over time can make!

This room is mostly used by my parents. They live about an hour and a half from us, but they come visit a lot, so they usually end up sleeping here a few times per month.

I definitely get my love of decorating and organizing from my mom. Her style is a little more “rustic farmhouse” than mine, so with that in mind, I felt like I went a little more rustic in this space than usual.

Pink, Gray, and White Guest Bedroom with Brass and Wood Accents

Right after we had the chandelier installed in this room– before I even had any of the other decor in here– Connor had a friend over to play, and when he walked past the guest room he said, “Oooh this is the fancy room!” ?

I guess the crystals do make it look a little fancy!

I didn’t want our guests to feel exposed to the whole world, so we bought some blackout shades for the windows and framed them in with inexpensive curtains.

Eventually these windows will be framed in the same craftsman style that we used in our living room. We just haven’t gotten there yet!

We made this cute bench when we lived at our last house, and it was the perfect size to be a “luggage rack substitute” for a guest room, so it landed in here.

DIY Tufted Bench with Basket of Pillows and Blanket

Since this room is pretty small and we didn’t have room for a chair, the bench is also a great spot to sit to put on shoes or do other little tasks.

Woven Basket Holding Pillows and Blankets in a Guest Bedroom

I found the woven basket at TJ Maxx one day and knew it would be a great addition to this space, holding an extra blanket and some pillows in case our guests need them. The narrow frame was a Michael’s find from several months ago.

The duvet cover played a big role in setting the tone for the room. I just stumbled upon it when I was at the store one day and knew it would be perfect in here. Then I found a beautiful lace-edged quilt set to go with it.

The headboard situation was a little tricky. There’s not a ton of space at the foot of the bed, so it couldn’t be anything very deep, but I still wanted it to flow nicely with the feel of the rest of the room. This simple white planked headboard ended up being a sweet and simple solution.

The walls were painted for the reason that most walls end up being painted in our house– one day I was feeling stressed, and when I feel stressed, I either organize or paint something! 🙂 The color is Behr Marquee Silver City— my favorite gray!

I had originally purchased these side tables to use as nightstands in our master bedroom, and I love them, but we decided that something with a drawer would be better for everyday use in our bedroom, so I moved these into the guest room, and they matched the look I was going for in the space!

This room has a weird little bump out that I wasn’t quite sure what to do with, but the size ended up working well for a high dresser.

I made the “Stay Awhile” sign at a group painting class I went to with some friends, and it only seemed appropriate for a guest room!

And speaking of DIY signs… I made these ones too!

How Great Thou Art Large Scale Canvas Art

I originally made this large scale canvas art to fill a big wall in our living room. When we put up the board and batten, it didn’t look right anymore, so I moved them up here.

My favorite piece of art in the room is the “Orchard” sign above the bed. My friend Jackie gave it to us when we moved in (I nicknamed our house “Orchard House” because we have a peach orchard in the backyard.), and it found its home in this space.

Slow Decorating

I have definitely found myself taking a slower approach to decorating in this house. I usually have a general idea in mind for the space, but then I just kind of wait until I find a piece– like the duvet cover– that jumps out at me and go from there.

As I get more and more familiar with and confident in my personal design style and preferences, it has seemed easier to pull a space together piece by piece.

And I’m not in a hurry. We’re planning on living in this house for quite a while (Unless God surprises us with different plans!), so I don’t want to rush into decisions just to be able to be “done.”

I’ve found that if I take my time and let things come together as I find pieces I love, I end up enjoying the overall end result more than if I speed through it anyway!

Let’s take a look at the “before and after”!

So much better! When I look back at pictures like that, it’s sometimes hard for me to believe how far this house has come in the past 2.5 years. (Though we still have a long to-do list to go too! 🙂 )

This a great simple but chic room you put together. It’s so sweet with the pink, white and the few rustic touches you added. I’m sure your parents are quite comfortable when they stay. Great job, and you know, it does look fancy, like a B&B.
