Planning a Pretty Powder Room

We’re planning a pretty powder room! Our half bath is getting a facelift, and I can’t wait to show you what we have in store!

Every January I share a post that lays out our house goals for the upcoming year. In 2020, I had three big goals: reorganize the boys’ playroom, decorate and organize our laundry room, and improve the small half bathroom on our first floor.

So far we have done two out of the three– the playroom and laundry room are complete– and today I am so excited to kick off the third and final project on our list, the half bath!

Like most of the rooms in our house, the powder room started out as a plain white box…

It wasn’t totally awful… just really boring! The paint that the builders used throughout our house was a flat, dingy white. So after a few years of living in our house, there were marks and scuffs on the walls in the half bath. It wasn’t looking great.

Before everything started with Covid, we hosted a decently large get together at our house. While I was getting ready to host, I took half a day to paint the powder room (Behr Marquee Silver City), hung a small shelf, and added some decor.

It was a quick fix that was fine for a little while, but now I’m really excited to give this little room a more extensive makeover!

Our Powder Room Plans

Here’s what I have planned…

Planning a Pretty Powder Room

wallpaper | wainscoting | light fixture | towel and toilet paper holders | mirror | vanity

Since this is a really small space, I felt like I could do something bolder than normal without it being too overwhelming! The wallpaper will definitely be the showstopper in this room. It’s in my favorite color scheme (yay!) and a little busier than what I usually gravitate toward. We plan to put beadboard paneling on the bottom 2/3-ish of the room. So I think the wallpaper will add just the right amount of color and interest in the space!

I don’t love the light fixture we have right now, so we’re going to swap it out for this cutie. And since the light fixture is brass, I’m also going to switch out our towel holder and toilet paper holder for brass fixtures as well.

Because we’re doing the wainscoting/beadboard, I wanted to make sure that the mirror I chose could go over the ledge without an issue. I found this pretty, simple pivot mirror and knew right away that it would be perfect.

Finally, you know I’m always thinking about storage and organization! So I’m planning to swap out the current pedestal sink for a vanity with a cabinet. This will add some much needed storage space to this room.

I’ll definitely add a few pretty accessories to the space as well, and then we’ll call it done!

This is the tiniest room in our house, and it has been pretty neglected up until this point. I’m excited to change that in the coming weeks!

Update: The powder room is done! See all of the projects involved and the final reveal via the links below!

  2. I love your moodboard. That wallpaper is to die for and that light fitting is fabulous. I’d love to know where the light fitting is from, the link to it in the post is wrong, it leads to the mirror instead.
