Christmas Home Tour season is here, and you’re invited to pop in and see the simple holiday touches we’ve added all around the house!

Seasonal Simplicity Christmas Home Tour- Dining Room

Hey there, friend! I’m so glad you’re here because today is one of my favorite days of the entire year– Christmas Home Tour day! (You can see part one of our Christmas tour here.)

Our Christmas Home Tour – Part 2

Traditional Christmas Porch

If I’m being honest, decorating for Christmas was a bit of a challenge for me this year. I went into it thinking I was going to go completely traditional… and for our exterior, I did!

I loved adding classic wreaths to the windows, garland around the door, and traditional little details like plaid pillows and lanterns filled with red and metallic ornaments!

Our door has welcomed people with a beautiful fresh wreath that has stood up amazingly well, even through some of the windy, snowy weather that we’ve been having here in Pennsylvania.

And as I continued into the house, I planned to keep going with my traditional Christmas wonderland… and then I got a bit distracted. Oops.

You see, I had decorated the shelves around our TV with traditional Christmas colors when I had the bright idea to sneak in some of my favorite aqua glass jars, just to see what they would look like with the red.

Well, once they were up there, I wasn’t going to take them down, so I left the red and aqua scheme up for a bit, deemed it cottage-y, and called it a day.

But every time I walked through the room, I had the urge to take out some of the red. I’m just not a big red fan in my own home, so it was startling me every time I came in. So I replaced one piece of the red with something more neutral. And then another. And then another. Before I knew it, my shelves were more aqua and white with teensy little red berry accents. Oops again.

I realize that it doesn’t look quite as festive with less red, but it does look way more “me,” so I’m fine with it. 🙂

I had a similar experience with our tree. I spent all sorts of time putting on red and aqua ornaments, but at the end of the day, the heart wants what the heart wants. So I took off all of the red. Again. And we have a silver, gray, aqua, and white tree that still makes me give a little squeal every time I walk in the room.

This sunroom is my landing spot whenever I’m hanging out downstairs. We have a great view of farmland and rolling hills out all of the windows, and adding the Christmas tree in this space just makes it extra magical…

Neutral and Aqua Christmas Dining Room

By the time I got to decorating the dining room, I wasn’t even trying to kid myself anymore. I had given up all pretense of trying to go with the traditional vibe, so I just embraced the whites and metallics, and the walls provided the aqua. (The wall color is Sherwin Williams Rainwashed, color matched in Behr Marquee paint.)

I went with fresh greenery for the centerpiece and the wreaths on the chairs, and I love the look, but boy, is it messy! I am always picking up rogue needles in here… but it’s worth it!

Last year I figured out that this terrarium was the perfect size for my nativity scene…

…and I about keeled over out of excitement. Doesn’t it look like a miniature stable?! A miniature stable in a sparkly bottlebrush forrest, of course. I mean, they totally had those in Bethlehem, right? 😉

My grandmother’s hutch got some white and metallic Christmas-y details too…

I found this little pencil tree at Hobby Lobby last year, and it has ended up being the perfect size for that corner. It’s nice and full and easy to decorate, and it adds some festivity so you can tell that it’s Christmas, even though I completely failed at red this year.

And there’s just something about those twinkle lights at night. I wouldn’t mind keeping those around all year…

Okay… but THIS size of tree is more perfect for My Wee Abode! 😉 Need it fuller, but slim! Kind of an oxymoron, right? 😉 I know you know what I mean! LOL!

  6. Your home is beautiful! Can you please tell me where you purchased your shades and what style they are? I love them behind your white curtains. That’s the look I want, but can’t find the right blinds. My son has similar ones in his home but says you can see through them from the outside. Can you see through yours from the outside when they are down?

    1. justagirlabby says:

Hi, Cheryl! We have these shades: https://www.selectblinds.com/bambooblinds/designer-series-woven-woods-shades.html in the Bali Abaca color. Ours are not completely opaque, but I don’t believe you can see through them from the outside. I know SelectBlinds has an option for privacy liners, though, so you may want to add those if you’re worried about the privacy aspect. I hope this helps!

  7. Isabel Freitas says:

I love your Christmas decoration. You’re definitely right. The “aqua is so you” and that’s what matters. At the end of the day, it’s your home and it’s gotta be decorated in a way you love! 🙂

    1. justagirlabby says:

I completely agree, Isabel! It never lasts when it’s not! 🙂 Hope you have a great weekend, friend!

  10. Shannon Acheson says:

Lol. I do the same thing with red, or any color. I put it in for a bit, but it startles me every time I walk in the room! It barely lasts through Christmas here.

    1. justagirlabby says:

So glad it’s not just me! Lol! Happy Friday, sweet friend! <3

      ~Abby =)

  11. I love that your entire house is not done in white plus the aqua/teal is my favorite color. I have always wanted to have a Christmas tree decorated with teal but was always out voted. Your home is gorgeous and Iyou have a new follower. Merry Christmas

    1. justagirlabby says:

Aw, thank you so much, Lisa! Teal is just the best, isn’t it? 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

Wow Abby, you’ve given your house so much personality and character! Your builder should hire you to spruce up all of their homes! Love the terrarium/nativity scene – totally unique idea!
