A Simple Outdoor Tablescape

Create simple outdoor tablescape for a fun and special dinner experience with family, friends, or loved ones.

A Simple Summer Outdoor Tablescape

Even as a self-proclaimed homebody, never have I ever thought that I would spend as much time at home as we have over the past few months. Eeeeek.

Now don’t get me wrong. I love our house. I love my family. And I love spending time with my family in our house. But it has been a LOT of time with the same people in the same space.

I really can’t complain. We have been minimally affected by the pandemic, and for that I am grateful.

But still, there are times when I need a little escape, and when that “escape” needs to take place at home, for me, it most often comes in the form of a creative project.

Beautiful Outdoor Table Setting

Every once in a while I just start to get the itch to organize something or paint something or create something new or fix up something old or make something pretty.

A Simple Summer Outdoor Table

And that is exactly what happened a few days ago when I decided to put together a pretty little outdoor tablescape on our deck for our family to enjoy.

It was simple– not super fancy or over-the-top. But it let me get my creative juices flowing and made the evening just a little more special than usual.

Donnie made this table and benches a few years ago when we first added the deck space to our house, and it is still going strong and as pretty as ever! I actually love the way it has weathered and aged a bit over the years.

I decided to do simple little charcuterie trays for our meal– first, because they’re easy, and second, because it’s something that everyone in the family will eat without complaining! 😉

(One of my boys’ favorite meals is “muffin tin dinner” when I hand them each a muffin tin and let them fill each hole with finger foods like pepperoni, crackers, cheese cubes, carrots, berries, and more!)

I also couldn’t resist pulling out my little cupcake stands (Target Dollar Spot ftw!) and displaying our dessert in a cute way. Plus, that way the boys had a reminder of what was to come if they ate a good dinner! 🙂

I used a mixture of real and faux greenery and florals on our table. I LOVE real flowers, but I happen to have a black thumb, so I keep plenty of fake plants around too!

One of our favorite reasons to spend time on the deck is to enjoy the view! Thanks to an oil and gas right-of-way, the area behind our property isn’t able to be built upon, so we will always have a big, open space directly behind us. Add the farmland and rolling hills across the way, and we couldn’t ask for a better setting for dining al fresco!

(In the fall, we can even see people taking hay rides up to the corn maze and pumpkin patch at the farm across the road!)

Even if our “getaways” and “escapes” are a little closer to home than they were pre-COVID, I’m still grateful for creative projects and fun nights in with my sweet boys! They certainly make our pandemic days a lot more enjoyable!
