Design, Tech- How to Make Pretty Labels in Canva, DIY Labels, Labels for Organization, Make Your Own Labels, Make Easy Labels, Simple Labels, Free Labels

Yes, you are at the right blog. I'm talking about making labels in a program other than Microsoft Word. Shocking, I know! You see, I've done a few posts about making labels in Word. The original tutorial is here and there is a video tutorial here.

But while I love making labels in Word, there is an even quicker and easier way to do it... and it's FREE! And since we tend to get into "label all the things" mode near the beginning of the year, I couldn't keep this oh-so-easy tip to myself anymore!

How to Make Pretty Labels with Canva

Canva.com is a free tool that I've been using to make simple graphics for a while, so I thought I'd do a quick tutorial to show you how to make cute little labels with Canva in just a few minutes. A video seemed to make more sense than screenshots for this tutorial, so sit back, relax, and watch the video below:

SO easy, right?! The one instance where I would still use Word over Canva is if I needed a label that was an EXACT measurement. If I'm trying to print directly onto sticker sheets, for example, I would download a template in Word and make my label there. If I have a little wiggle room with my sizing, though, it doesn't get much easier than Canva.

My Favorite Labeling Supplies

I mentioned in the video that I would link to some of my favorite labeling supplies, so here we go...

  • My current printer: HP Office Jet Pro 8720
  • For printing labels: White Card Stock
  • Laminator (for making labels more durable): Scotch Thermal Laminator
  • For hanging labels: Tape or Velcro Dots

These are the items I use most when I make printable labels. I also am often asked if I have a favorite label making machine, and if I'm just doing quick tiny labels, I use this label maker.

I hope that helps with your label making needs! 🙂 Have fun with it!

Thanks Abby! I find it's a good idea to label all storages. I started to implement it for keeping my papers and it's really so convenient.

Abby, I am signed up for Canva and never thought about making labels. Thank you so much for the idea!
I have promised myself to get rid of a lot of things just hanging around the house taking up space. With a 1250 square foot space, I feel its closing in on me. Labels will help me get inspired and make a place for what I really want to keep. I,m 70 and need to start decluttering. And I have a laminator too!
    Wish me luck!

Thank you, Abby! I think I am going to enjoy exploring Canva. And you are quite right, the video makes it very easy to grasp what you are doing. I, for one, would enjoy more posts demonstrating what could be done with such free online tools. (Although I do enjoy all your posts! But this is something I can go ahead and do myself immediately.)
