Many of the posts and projects on this blog come about by asking myself the question, “What do people need most right now?” and that is exactly what I was thinking about when trying to decide what kind of printables to create for spring.

I considered doing some sort of spring cleaning printable or decluttering checklist. I thought about making goal setting sheets or a printable to help with productivity. But as I thought about it more and more, it seemed like more than any organization or productivity tool, what would truly be helpful for people would be hope and encouragement.

A Difficult Year

I kept thinking about the fact that we are about to hit the one year mark of widespread shutdowns and stay-at-home orders, masking, social distancing, canceled events, and huge changes in just about every area of life due to Covid. (In my part of the US, March 13th of last year was the date that everything shut down. I know it varies from place to place.)

I think many of us thought that life would be back to “normal” by now and that Covid would be behind us. But here we are a year in, and we still have quite a ways to go.

I honestly can’t complain. There are so many people who have been affected in much bigger ways than I have. My family is healthy. I have a solid support system of friends and family members. I worked from home anyway, so not much changed on that front. My kids are able to go to school and participate in activities (with modifications, of course). And for all of those things, I am so, so grateful.

Tough Stuff

But even though my own situation has been generally good over the course of this whole thing, there have still been days (and sometimes weeks) that have felt really, really hard.

I am an anxious person by nature, so all of the extra Covid stuff sometimes kicks that into overdrive.

There have been times I have felt really lonely, even with my support system just a call or text message away.

I’ve felt sad and frustrated over things that have been cancelled or postponed indefinitely, as I’m sure we all have.

And I know that if I am feeling all of these things from time to time, there are probably others feeling them too.

So instead of some sort of organizing printable, I decided to create printables meant to uplift and encourage. Because I’ve found that being both the giver or the receiver of a little bit of extra kindness can really go a long way in improving our mood and our attitude.

I made some little gift tags with encouraging messages on them. You can download them below.

Who are the encouragement gift tags for?

The messages can be given to anyone who could use a little encouragement or pick-me-up, like…

  • your bff
  • a parent
  • siblings
  • spouse or significant other
  • your kids or nieces/nephews/grandchildren
  • work friends
  • teacher and/or students
  • your mentor or pastor
  • healthcare or other essential workers in your life
  • or even complete strangers!

Who couldn’t use a little extra love these days?! (And can I tell you a secret? Sometimes it’s even more fun to be the gift-er than it is to be the gift-ee!)

What do I give along with the encouragement gift tag?

Yes, these tags are meant to be attached to gifts, but they don’t have to be anything elaborate or expensive. I just print them out on card stock, cut them out, and use a hole punch on the circle at the top. Then they can be attached to things like…

  • candy bar or salty snack
  • candle
  • fun mug
  • love note or poem
  • small gift card
  • puzzle or game
  • book or magazine
  • handmade craft
  • accessory for one of their favorite activities
  • cozy blanket
  • pampering items like nail polish, face masks, or bath salts

I could go on and on! There are so many things these encouragement gift tags could be attached to!

I made them small enough that they could be used on little items like candy…

But they’re also big enough to add a little pocket to the back for a gift card or note. (I just made this little pocket out of card stock and used tape donuts to attach it to the back of the tag.)

Then you can hang it on a child’s bedroom door, a friend’s locker at school, your significant other’s rearview mirror, or wherever!

Whether it’s Covid or some other struggle, there are many people in our lives who could use a little extra boost right now. My hope is that these printable tags will help you put a smile on others’ faces and brighten up their day (and brighten up your own at the same time)!
