Hey, hey, hey it’s reveal day! 😀 If you missed it, last week I introduced you to the Cs’ bathroom/guest bathroom, aka the least offensive room in our house. When we moved in, all of the other rooms needed SO much work that we just threw up a shower curtain in here and let it be its old, boring self for the last 6 years while we paid attention to every other room but this one. Yes, for 6 whole years we have been staring at this:

So. Much. Cream. The boring-ness kinda makes you want to fall asleep, right? Since we recently tore another bathroom in our house down to the studs and built it back up to beautifulness, we weren’t quite ready for another project of that magnitude, but I decided that I would take a week and give this unexciting room a little refresh. Paint, a new shower curtain, accessories? Yes. Major demo? No.

If you’ve been following along with #thecsbathroomrefresh on Instagram or Facebook, you know that I’ve hit a few bumps in the road this week. First there was the painted-over wallpaper border that wouldn’t come off. Then I nearly sliced my finger tip off with a paint shield. Then while painting the ceiling I got paint all through my hair decided to give myself custom highlights. 😉

And if that wasn’t enough, I waited until the last minute to order the photos I needed and was standing around yesterday waiting for them to arrive so I could take pictures of the room when I realized that it was a holiday. There was no mail, therefore, no photos. Thank goodness for one hour developing! 😀

But even with all the snags and snafus along the way, I really had a blast working on this room over the past week and I totally love how it turned out. Ready to see?

Just slightly better than the big, off-white box, right? There’s color! There’s contrast! There’s texture! I’m lovin’ it! {Can ya tell I’m just a smidge excited?! 😉 }

We went with an absolutely gorgeous color by Behr for the walls– Dreamscape Gray. When I saw it on Behr’s 2015 Color Trends list, I just knew I had to try it out and I love how it pops off the trim and really works in this space.

As you saw in the “before” picture, this room used to have a bar for towel-hanging purposes. Since the Cs are its primary users, though, hooks were much more practical for them to be able to hang up their own towels when they’re done with their bath. (Well, baby C is still too short, but fortunately Con is a good big brother and will help, I’m sure.)

Normally when I re-do a room, the hardest decision for me is what to put on the walls. I don’t know why– I just tend to have some sort of creative block there.

But a few weeks ago I got a new light kit for Christmas and since this room has no windows, I tested it out by taking some pictures of the Cs in the bath (from the chest up…with lots of bubbles…) and I just knew they would be the perfect photos to adorn the walls of the bathroom. Love those sweet boys!

Since we took down the towel bar on the other side of the room, we had to have something to put in its place, and this IKEA shelf which once hung in Caleb’s nursery was just the ticket. (Though I feel like it’s hung a bit high, so we’ll probably move it down at some point.)

Hydrangeas have a habit of falling into my cart every time I visit Trader Joe’s {I have no idea how that happens… 😉 }, and they found a home here since they just so happened to match the room perfectly!

I was *so* excited to finally be able to use the peacock wrapping paper you see in the larger of the two frames. I had picked it up in the Target Dollar Spot a while ago because I was so inspired by the colors, and this room ended up being the perfect place to put that palette to work!

The vanity holds just a few more little accessories, and that’s the grand tour! This room sure has come a long way in just a week! {Remind me why I didn’t tackle this project sooner…?} Let’s take a peek at the before and after:

Lovely, Abby! Great job pulling all that together in a week – you’re amazing! I seriously love the wall with the kids’ pictures above the towels. It looks adorable and the hooks are such a practical idea. I’m really inspired to rip out our towel bars that the kids are too little to use!

  2. Paula@SweetPea says:

Great job on your bathroom refresh. I really love the color you chose and also the shower curtain.

Would you mind sharing which light kit you got for Christmas. My house is so dark and that’s something that I could really use.

  3. Christine says:

Oh my gosh Abby!! The bathroom doesn’t even look the same! LOVE LOVE the new look!! I used BEHR’s Dreamscape Gray too and LOVE IT!! I must say the framed photos of your kiddies are soooooo cute!

  4. Robin All Things Heart and Home says:

Abby! The entire bathroom looks made over! I had to look again at the floors before because the gorgeous color on the walls made the floors look completely different!!! I love Dreamscape Gray …it’s on my list to use- 🙂 xo

  5. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how this turned out! I’m always amazed at what a big difference a little paint can make! As a gal on her way into a 70’s house that needs A LOT of work, I’m feeling SO inspired to take it all on!

  6. Holly @ coconutheadsurvivalguide.com says:

Hi Abby – This bathroom is STUNNING! Absolutely beautiful and you totally hit it out of the park! I do want a follow up post after the C’s have been using it for a week or two and want to see the tub toys all over the place and pee on the ceiling! Boy moms unite!!!!! Hugs, Holly

  7. Angie Ulseth says:

Love how your bathroom turned out! Instead of bringing the shelf down (and having to fill nail holes and touch up paint!), there’s enough room to put another photo, maybe a group photo of your boys in the tub. I have photos of my grandkids in our bathroom, and they’re some of my favorites (the photos AND the grandkids!).

  8. Great job on the bathroom makeover! It looks awesome! I really do like the wall color. I’ve been hesitant to go with gray since I have beige tiles and carpet in my home, but I really wish I could make it work. It really does make the trim in the bathroom pop. I also am in love with the peacock wrapping paper in the frame. Excellent idea! I hope your little ones enjoy their new bath space!

  9. Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom says:

I am a knick knack addict and I just love all of the little knick knacks on that shelf. I pinned it for inspiration, because one of these days I am going to work on revamping our hall bathroom!

  10. Absolutely LOVE the new shower curtain!!

  11. Selene Galindo says:

Oh Abby!! What a difference!! I love love love the wall color, shower curtain, your cutie’s pictures and how you decorated the space! I’ve always loved towel hooks as opposed to towel racks….even for adults lol! If I don’t have to neatly fold a towel, I’m one happy gal!
    Great job girlfriend!!

  12. Nicole B. says:

This is beautiful, Abby! I LOVE the color choices and that shower curtain is fabulous!!!

  13. Elizabeth L says:

    Oh its beautiful! Awesome job!

  14. Kim@NewlyWoodwards says:

Whoa! Such a transformation! I love it all – the wall color, the patterned shower curtain, and all the little details. We are a strictly towels-on-hooks family, and it’s just so much simpler to keep everything looking neat. And I’m also a huge fan of the bath photos – we have some Henry ones in our bath, too.

Anyhow – enough about me. You rock, momma! What a great space. Boring, no more.

  15. Emily @ Table + Hearth says:

Holy cow Abby!! It looks like a totally different, bigger, brighter, and happier space!! The Cs are lucky guys 🙂

  16. Amanda - Small Home Big Start says:

What a great color choice – it’s so tranquil! The room looks so open and fresh!

  17. Aurie Jenkins says:

I love it! It turned out great. The grey is heavenly. I have been wanting to put grey on my walls for awhile. Its just so refreshing. I love your fun pops of color too. It really makes the room feel cozy and bright (which can be hard to do in a small space). Yeah for fun bathroom redo’s.

  18. Sydney @Tastefully Frugal says:

I just love this Abby! The bright accent colors with gray walls is just perfect! I am a big fan of hooks instead of towel racks too. Thanks for the inspiration!

  19. Amanda @ Dwelling in Happiness says:

Looks fabulous!! I love the before and after; such a dramatic change, with just a little paint and accessories! 🙂 You’ve definitely inspired me to do something with our lame little guest bath. Love that shower curtain, too!

  20. Amber Slocum says:

Absolutely love the colors! What a fantastic job. 🙂

  21. Wow that really looks crisp and fresh. I need and want to do something with our boys’ bathroom now. I love your updates!

  23. Would you mind sharing where you got that fabulous shower curtain?

  24. On the wall that has the towel hooks, did you use two different colors or just one?

    1. Abby Lawson says:

Just one! Other than the trim pieces, it is all Behr Dreamscape Gray. Have a great day!
