Happy Friday! Well, I hope yours is happier than mine. I rushed both the C’s to the doctor’s office this morning with double ear infections. Poor babies. (What am I saying? Poor MOMMY! ;))
But wiping runny noses and administering antibiotics aside, I can’t help but feel excited about how our new “Command Center” is coming along! On Wednesday I revealed the plan for the new hub of organization in our home, central to which was replacing our secretary desk with a smaller work surface. This is where the vanity comes in.
Since I’m probably one of the cheapest people on the planet, I was determined to complete this project using items we already owned whenever possible. Fortunately, we had a piece of furniture that I knew would be perfect. I call it a “piece of furniture” because it has served so many purposes at this point that it is probably having an identity crisis! It started out as a vanity that matched my mom’s bedroom suite when she was a teenager in the ’70s. I scoured old family photos hoping to catch a glimpse of it, but to no avail, so you’re going to have to trust me that it looked similar to this:
While I was pregnant with Connor, we realized that the vanity sans mirror would be the perfect height for a changing table for our new little one, so that’s what it became:
Of course, Caleb then inherited said changing table from his big brother (story of his life ;)), but now that he’s too squirmy to use it, it is available to take on yet another use. A couple coats of spray paint and two new knobs later, we have…
…a new desk!!! I am so thrilled with how it has already begun to transform the space. A couple accessories and organizational tools, and our “Command Center” will be all ready to go. Be sure to check back to see the big reveal! Have a wonderful weekend!
Have you ever upcycled an old piece of furniture to give it new life?
