2014 Summer Home Tour

Summer Home Tour 2014 at JustAGirlAndHerBlog.com

Happy Friday, my friends!! We are kicking off the weekend right with a summer home tour!

Now for home tours I usually start at the front door and make my way logically through the house. Today, though, I decided to throw you for a loop.

Since I’ve already shared a lot of the upstairs rooms on the blog and the downstairs has seen a lot of changes since my last tour, I’m going to keep you in suspense and start with the upstairs first. Is that mean? What if I tell you it’s worth the wait? 😉

Okay, enough talk. More pictures! Let’s start in my most favorite room of all, my fabulously feminine home office

If you’re new-ish to the blog, this is the most recent room to be deemed “finished.” I was so excited to FINALLY have a room in the house to call my own {read: no boys allowed! 😉 } that I went all out with the femininity in this space.

I always feel like I have to explain that this wall is almost blank on purpose. This is where I take most of my blog photos of craft projects, so I needed a big, blank area. The little scrappy bunting adds some interest, though, and it is high enough out of the way that it doesn’t sneak into pictures.

The other side of the room is what I really, really love– storage galore!! Storage was my biggest issue when I started to tackle this space, and I could not be more thrilled with how much room I have now!

The Cs’ room was also done fairly recently, and it’s only because we decided to put them together that I got my own office in the first place! Thankfully these brothers love each other a lot and do not mind sharing one bit!

This room was sort of a challenge because we were trying to fit a lot of function into a not-so-huge space. Along with the obvious need of beds for sleeping, we also managed to work in some toy storage…

…some clothes storage…

…and even a little craft nook!

Moving on to the master… our master bath is currently a work in progress that will hopefully be finished up soon. We revamped the master bedroom about a year ago, but I already have some changes in mind for the not-too-distant future. {Hey, be impressed that I left it alone for a whole year! 😉 }

Aaaaaannnnndddd now on to the new stuff! If you saw yesterday’s post, you already got a little sneak peek. This past weekend we painted our entire main living area, taking it from a darkish-tan to a light and bright gray. It has made SUCH a difference!

I finally got to hang the mirrored gallery wall that I talked about in this post… {And when I say “I,” I of course mean that Donnie did most of it… 😉 }

My bold and blue TV stand is now highlighted even more, thanks to the new paint color…

And even if I have to remove everything after a few hours to save my tchotchkes from the hands of the Cs, I always like to pretend that we can have a pretty coffee table for a little while…

If you’ve seen any of my other home tours, you know that I like to change out the decor on my floating shelves for each season. Well, after we painted the walls a lighter color, the old dark brown shelves just weren’t cutting it anymore, so they went to the garage sale pile.

I thought about just painting them, but they were always a bit more narrow than I would have liked, plus they were kind of clunky and I wanted a sleeker design, so we replaced them with these…

Oh, come on. You knew there was going to be some sort of aqua/mint-ish vignette somewhere! I can’t seem to stay away from them! Actually, the paper in the frames on the top shelf probably looks strangely familiar…

I had some wrapping paper left over from when I lined the back of my bookshelves in my home office, and I couldn’t resist sneaking some in here!

And what’s a home tour without a little monogram worked in? {Am I getting a little predictable? 😉 }

That’s about it for the inside of the house. On your way out be sure to check out my summer-ified door decor

And come back to visit soon, okay?! 🙂

    You’ve created such beauty and serenity in your home, Abby! This is inspiring me to do a mega house clean this weekend (it is a bit of a disaster area right now with some furniture makeover projects underway). Also, thanks for the sweet giveaway! Had to enter for the chance at that printable prize pack…and wanted to tweet it from the rooftops so others get in on this action. Your eBook rocks!

  16. JaneEllen says:

    Seeing your home maKes me realize I have a long way to go to get mine even half as nice as yours, so beautiful. Are you sure you have two little boys in that house? How do you keep it so nice? Every thing I saw was exceptional and so tidy. You must work hard or else you shove lots of things in closets before photo shoots, lol. I am so inspired and impressed. Your craft room is so wonderful the colors really got me, my favorites.
    We’ve been doing some painting, fixing up, (finally after almost 8 yrs) so I want to find a paper I can back my shelves with. Want to be a pleasant contrast to highlight what’s on shelves, looking at scrapbook paper, contact paper. Found some gorgeous new wallpaper at Target but not at their prices. I’d need too much of it. They had a muted silver like grass cloth but at $29.99 a roll, don’t think so. Will keep on looking. Thought about painting backs of shelves but I’m just not a tidy enuf painter not to have paint everywhere but where I wanted it, lol. Not going anywhere, have lots of time so will be patient. ( at least will try to be). Since shelf contents tend to be changed thought paper would still be best, nothing permanent.
    The storage in your craft room is so incredible, you worked so hard, how do you keep it so neat now that it’s done? Obviously you are not a very messy crafter as I am.
    Enjoy your gorgeous home and many, many happy summer days.

    1. justagirlabby says:

      Oooh everything definitely gets messy, too! You are seeing the rooms on their better days, for sure! Especially with two crazy boys around, it’s hard to keep everything in its place for very long! Hope you’re having a great week, JaneEllen!
