At Last...The Master Bedroom Reveal!

I am so excited! Master bedroom reveal day is finally here! Remember way back in March {yes, March} when I talked about our bedroom conundrum? Probably not. I barely remember it. I was playing around with ideas for updating our master bedroom but was hesitant to go all out because we are planning on buying a new house and renting out our current place in the near future. Though I didn't replace everything, I decided to give the room a refresh, and I couldn't be more thrilled to finally share it with you! Just as a reminder, here is where we started...

Master Bedroom Before Shot

And this is what it looks like today...

I kept some of the same elements--our furniture and the bedding stayed--but I tried to add things to make the room more of a cozy haven where we could relax rather than a bare, boring space with not much personality.

I painted the accent wall since the former color clashed with our bedding {the pictures don't show quite how bad the mismatch was} and then added a white duvet and painted the trunk to lighten things up.

We were definitely in need of some throw pillows to help with the room's "cozy" factor, so after searching far and wide for the perfect pillows and failing, I found some pretty fabric and covered a few pillows that I already had!

And then there were the lamps... Oh, the lamps...

Master Bedroom Reveal by Just a Girl and Her Blog

I think I traveled to every single store that sells lamps in Pittsburgh, but I finally found these beauties and recovered the shades so that they flowed with the room. I also knocked off some Anthropologie decor using vintage wallpaper and a $2 Walmart vase!

The window treatments in our old room had really been bugging me because they were off-white and our bedding was white:

Windows Before

Ick. I like our new painted striped curtains much better...

Master Bedroom Reveal by Just a Girl and Her Blog

We may add some sort of blind or shade in the future, but for now, we're just pulling the curtains closed when we need to and it's working just fine. {We also have big trees in front of our windows, so that helps.}

Master Bedroom Reveal by Just a Girl and Her Blog

This is hubby's dresser, so I tried to make it a little more masculine. {Deer and canoes are masculine, right? ;)} You can spot one of my thrifted frames that recently received a facelift and my simple napkin art. {Yep, the yellow and gray flowers in those frames are cut up pieces of a napkin!}

My dresser also need some help. Badly.

But I added a $10 clearance mirror and some fun accessories, and I was in business!

Included in this space was my DIY cake platter tray and my girly glitter vase, both "dollar decor" projects!

Would have I done some things differently if this was going to be our "long term" place? Probably. I most likely would have changed out the light fixture and added a rug under the bed for starters, but I have to leave some fun for later, right?! 😉

I had a blast making over this space. I love the complimentary contrasts of light and dark, square and round, and masculine and feminine throughout the room. {Okay, I admit, even my "masculine" comes off kind of feminine. Good thing hubby puts up with me!} I love that it's so much brighter and airier and that I grin every time I walk into the room. That has to be a good sign. Let's take one more look...

Master Bedroom Reveal by Just a Girl and Her Blog

And because I love checking things off, here's the to-do list I made back in March:

  • Gut the bathroom and install new shower, tile, and flooring.
  • Spice up the vanity. See how we did this by framing in the vanity mirror.
  • Reconcile the window treatment/bedding mismatch. Brought in painted striped curtains.
  • Possibly repaint the accent wall. Went from mismatched teal to chocolate brown.
  • Accessorize…to what extent? We definitely brought some accessories into this room!

Look at all of those lovely crossed-off items! Poor handy hubby has been swamped at work, so the bathroom is still in progress, but it's getting there little by little. I'll be back later this week to share more details about the room, including sources. Thanks for taking the grand tour!

What spaces have you made over lately? Isn't it the best feeling when they're "done" {at least for now!}?

    What a fabulous room! I love so many of the changes you made - I love how the dark wall behind the bed makes the rest of the room really pop - it even seems to make the room look bigger!

    The lamps you found are stunning - I love how you recovered the shades too 🙂

    You should be very proud of this room!!
    I would be 🙂

      Thank you, Christy! It sort of feels strange (in a good way!) to have it done. I was at Target yesterday and I thought, "Hm, what do I need to pick up for the bedroom...?" And then I realized I didn't need anything bc it was finished! (for now at least!) I guess I'll just have to start on another room! 🙂 Thanks so much for reading. Have a great day!

    Hey there! I met you at the OV Meet and Greet this past Friday at Ikea and just wanted to say Hi! Or I guess I said Hey there! =-) Was great to meet you and I love this bedroom, especially the dark chocolate wall behind the bed. Love it and makes me want to be bold and try this in my bedroom if I ever make it to getting that room done. Seems like my BR is always the last to get re-done and it is the one room that I NEED to look nice. Ah well.

    Hope to see you again and continue the conversation!
