A Fall Home Tour {Migonis Home}

Hi, friends! As you read this, I am on an airplane headed out to sunny California to help Behr celebrate the launch of their new Marquee line of paint! I’ll be back with all of the details next week, but today I’m thrilled to have my friend Jen from Migonis Home blog here to share here absolutely stunning home with us. You are in for a real treat! So sit back, relax, grab your favorite beverage and enjoy!!

Hello to you fabulous Just a Girl and Her Blog readers! I’m Jen from Migonis Home. My husband, AJ and I are renovating our small Cape in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts. The town is just as charming as the name makes you think it would be. 🙂 I’m sharing a little bit of our house tour today, I’ve started adding some fall touches and just love working white pumpkins into our beachy color scheme. We have two kids under 3 1/2 so we try to keep the house casual and kid-friendly without being a primary colored heaven. 🙂 We added this front porch onto our house less than a year ago and it’s added fabulous additional living space for the warmer weather.

and right now I’ve started adding in some fall touches onto our front porch, I can’t wait to share the rest once I get the mums out of their plastic pots. 🙂

I’ll start with our kitchen. It was the first room that we renovated after purchasing the house four years ago.

We gutted the kitchen and tore down a wall between the kitchen and dining room. We added in Thomasville white cabinets, marble counters (the one splurge I really wanted) and stainless appliances. Over time we built up our island to be more substantial (a $100 improvement that made our kitchen look so much more custom) and added in some seagrass bar stools I found at Marshalls.

For probably three quarters of the time we’ve lived here the living room, which is very long, has been a mystery to me. I always had zones in it but changing the set up to have the couch positioned this way has really given definition to the room and blocks the desk AJ uses for bill paying from the rest of the room (which is good because he loves piles all over it. :)). Half of the furniture from this room is from either a thrift store, the side of the road or Craigslist. I decided to only feature two photos of this space, and one from my phone so you can see it in real life as it was being lived in and loved on Saturday morning while we watched Arthur.

I am big on toy storage…I don’t want to see anything after they go to bed (it saves my sanity!). I purchased this fantastic dresser, that didn’t look so fabulous initially, and removed every bit of 1970s goodness from it to come up with this very classic and well made piece to hold most of the toys we keep downstairs.

Our bedroom is our sanctuary. It’s the most chic and grown-up of all the rooms in the house. I love a simple and calming color scheme as is evidenced by this space. Today’s I’m just sharing a few teaser images before sharing more for our fall house tour in about a week. But let me be very honest… it’s really in large part due to having mountains of clothes all over my bedroom because I’m switching out my summer clothes for my fall / winter items. 🙂

This electric fireplace has been such a statement making piece. It makes our bedroom feel so much more cozy and homey while definitely giving off a classic vibe.

Our only bathroom, a 5×5 space, was gutted two years ago and it’s in for another change shortly…

Let’s go back downstairs as if I was letting you out the back door. We have a small space here but I think we maximized it with the directional sign I made…

… and then by working in some great family shots that my friend Heather took of our family one night after dinner.

I accessorized the area for fall with some ceremic pumpkins and gourds from Dollar Tree that I painted white (you know how Dollar Tree finds never look too realistic. :)).

Lastly, I’ll leave you with one of my favorite images from this month… right off our back door area we created a little area in our living room for a drop zone. If I’m being honest 95% of the time it looks like crazy land there with everyone’s bags but this photo captured a moment a couple of weeks ago of hydrangea goodness. The kids and I had just gone to my parents’ house and cut a bunch of the gorgeous hydrangeas. Now they are looking fantastic around the house now that they are dried.

That’s all for now… you can come over and visit me and see the complete before and after tour including my kids’ rooms on our House Tour page.
