Confession: I may LOVE to decorate, but I am also pretty practical when it comes to our home’s decor. While any normal person would probably have relinquished all of their hand-me-down furniture by the time they had been married for almost a decade, I often hang on to furniture and other bigger ticket items that were passed down to us ages ago because… well… they still work! It is SO hard for me to justify spending money to replace something that is totally functional, even if it isn’t something I necessarily would have picked out for myself.

Take, for example, our dining set…

A Bright and Cheery Summer Table | JustAGirlAndHerBlog.com

This set belonged to Donnie’s family growing up, and his parents so graciously gifted it to us when we were young, poor newlyweds straight out of college. It has moved across the country with us and back, put up with abuse from our two little Cs, and has seen thousands upon thousands of meals served upon it in its lifetime. And while it might not be my “dream” set, it worked really well for us for years, and we were grateful for it.

Recently, though, it began to show signs of age. Like, when we had guests over, I would hold my breath when they sat down and hope the chair didn’t pop apart… yikes! (Fortunately, that never actually happened, though sometimes it seemed like it was going to! 🙂 ) We finally decided it was time to invest in a grown up dining set, particularly in strong, sturdy chairs that also looked like a million bucks… but were affordable. That’s not too much to ask, right?!

After searching high and low for the *perfect* chairs, I ran across these gorgeous Parson’s Chairs in Sand from Kirkland’s:

They also have them in seafoam, which I was so close to getting, but I ultimately went with Sand because it would be more versatile in case I ever decide to change our dining room accessories…which happens more than I would like to admit. 😉  The chairs fit all of my specifications: Sturdy? Check! Affordable? Check! Absolutely gorgeous? Definitely check! So we headed off to Kirkland’s, nabbed two of these beauties, and we were good to go!

When I found out that my sister and brother-in-law were going to be coming into town, I thought it would be the perfect excuse to update the dining room for summer (can you believe it’s almost here already?! Eek!) and have a fun little night in!

I was so ready to bring some bright and cheery summer colors into our home, so I used my most favorite aqua dishes to start off the color palette.

These were also a Kirkland’s find, and though this exact set isn’t currently on their website, these are very similar and are SO beautiful, and this set is pretty too. After the dishes, I continued to bring in more bright, summery colors, adding neutral touches here and there so it didn’t look too crazy.

I always love to decorate my grandmother’s hutch to go along with our seasonal decor, and it is looking especially festive right now with all of the bright pops of color!

Fresh flowers always make me smile– these bright yellow lilies and cala lilies added the perfect “punch” to the table!

I’m so glad we finally took the leap and gave our dining area a little refresh. It was definitely needed, and we love to be able to enjoy it with our family and friends when they come over, too!

Abby – love the chairs! I’m in a similar boat – we have a dining set that we actually bought years ago but it is starting to show some age and is not the style we want anymore.
