Neutral Fall Shelf Decor
What?! I can’t believe I’m putting up a fall post already! And actually I feel like I’m kind of late– I’ve been seeing fall posts around blogland for a few weeks now! One of my favorite things to do each time a new season rolls around is change up my shelf decor. I don’t go hog wild with seasonal decorating, but these shelves have been a great way to switch up our decor from time to time and bring in a little taste of each season. Plus I feel like there is something sort of therapeutic about arranging different tchotchkes and elements and coming up with the perfect combination. Call me crazy {You certainly wouldn’t be the first one! 😉 }, but I love it.
Last year I went the glam route with my fall decor. This year I kind of swung to the other end of the spectrum and decided to do neutrals. {What can I say? I have eclectic taste!} It all started on a rainy day last week when I decided to cut up some old curtains and a shower curtain that my mom had given me and turn them into a scrappy banner. Because I am a craft supply hoarder, I also happened to have some lace scraps in my stash, so I added those to the mix and loved the result! {If you want to make your own scrappy banner, see the one I made in the spring for the tutorial– so easy!}
With the bunting as my inspiration, I began searching the house for more pieces I could use to bring my neutral shelves together.
I snagged some dollar store {!} pails and popped in some faux green hydrangeas (because we all know I have a black thumb and have no chance of keeping real ones alive) and borrowed some glitter pumpkins from last year’s fall decor stash.
I added in a few more little items for texture and interest, and the bottom shelf was finished! On to the top!
To anchor the top shelf, I grabbed a large mirror from my bedroom and used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out a vinyl design to dress it up a little bit for fall. When fall is over, I’ll just be able to peel off the decal and have my normal mirror back– so easy!
I spray painted a few paper mache pumpkins from Michaels and added a little birdie just to keep them company. 🙂
And I finally finished off the top shelf with a candle and some more textured goodness. I love it when a plan comes together!
Each time I style these shelves I feel like I learn new things about what works and what doesn’t. It’s fun to play around with all sorts of seemingly random items and watch them come together to form a cohesive picture.

How are you decorating for fall this year?
I love the neutrals! So classic yet gorgeous. I am so excited to get my fall decorations up.
Thank you, Jamie! So crazy that it’s getting close to fall, but it’s kind of fun to pull out all of the decorations again! Hope you’re having a wonderful day!

I love the idea of neutral decor for fall! I have a few white pumpkins I’m going to bring out this season as well. Looks great Abby!

I was kinda sad that summer is just about over and done with, but now yr post cheered me up! I can’t wait to decorate for fall now! 🙂
Yay! If nothing else, decorating is good for generating seasonal excitement for sure. 🙂 Hope you had a wonderful weekend, Gabi!

The scrappy banner is finished! And it looks great! The fall decal on the mirror is just the cherry on top. I have to admit, at first, I thought it was a reflection of a chandelier so it was cool to read on and see that it was a decal.
Lol! I never thought of it that way, but you’re right– it is sort of chandelier-ish in shape! 🙂 Thanks so much for your sweet words, Michelle! Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

I’m going to be so ready for fall and everything fall decor once this crazy heat wave goes away! The thought of pumpkins and turning leaves sounds so wonderful! I love fall decor but a lot of times it’s a little overwhelming. I LOVE your neutral take on it!
I hear ya! We had a cold snap in early August, and now a heat wave! What is UP with this weather?! 😉 Hope you had a wonderful weekend, Carrie!

This is so cute! I have done exactly ZERO in the way of fall decorating, but this is something I think I could probably whip up. 😉

Love this look! The scrappy banner could be used for multiple events / holidays since it’s so neutral. Time for me to see what’s in my stash as well as get to decorating asap! Have a great one!
That’s what I love about these! I can usually find enough materials in my craft hoarding supplies to make them! Yippee! 🙂 Hope you’re having a great night, Jamie!
