Spring to Summer Door Decor

Summer is upon us, so I decided that it was time for some new door decor! If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’re probably saying to yourself, “Hey, doesn’t that door decor look kinda familiar…?” And you would be right.

See, a few months ago, I revealed my spring door decor, and it looked a little something like this:

Recognize anything? 😉 Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE to change out my door decor with each season, but I had grown attached to this pretty little frame, and I just wasn’t ready to let it go yet.

So instead of ditching it altogether, I gave it a little bit of a makeover! The switch was so simple, and I loved that I was able to use something I already had and give it a whole new look!

Here’s what I used to change it up:

  • Frame (mine was originally from Michael’s)
  • Feathers
  • Felt
  • Paint (I used Behr’s Swan Sea.) + Paint Brust
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun

I started by painting the frame. While it was drying, I made my felt flower. I kind of have a thing for felt flowers. I even made a whole wreath out of them at Christmas time, and if I didn’t get bored with my door decor so easily, I would definitely have that one out all year. But since I like a change every now and then, I’ll just do a different wreath and sneak felt flowers in wherever I can, mmmmmk? 😀

ANYWAY… I started by cutting a big circle out of my felt (1). Then I cut it into a spiral shape (2). I started at the middle of the flower and began wrapping the felt around itself, securing it with a dot of hot glue (3). I continued to wrap and wrap, putting a dot of hot glue every few rotations (4).  When I got to the end of my felt, I put one final dab of hot glue under the end piece to keep it together (5), and I had my beautiful flower (6)! So easy!

Then all that was left to do was glue everything together. I glued down my feathers first and glued the felt flower on top of them.

After that I added a ribbon, hung it on the door, and I was done!

Should we check out the spring-to-summer transformation?

I love it when a piece can do double duty! Maybe I’ll use the same frame for fall and winter, and just do a year-long series. Or maybe I’ll be bored with it by then! 😉

Thanks so much for checking out my summer door decor!
