Simple Spring Door Decor

Simple Spring Door Decor at JustAGirlAndHerBlog.com

It’s Friday! I hope you are all getting a nice early start to your Easter weekend! If you took my spring home tour last week, you already got a sneak peek of today’s project: my simple spring door decor!

Honestly, the longer I blog, the more I struggle with door decor. Since I change it out seasonally, I’m always looking for a new, fresh way to decorate my doorway, and I’m afraid that one of these days I will run out of wreath ideas! I mean so far I’ve done a yarn wreath, a ribbon wreath, buoys, a frame/tulle wreath, and a felt flower wreath

…what else could I possibly do? When I was thinking about ideas for spring, I happened to come across a frame I had purchased for another project that didn’t end up working out. I loved the shape, and I was dying to try some paper flowers with my Silhouette, so this simple spring wreath was born. Here’s what I used to create it:

  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue dots
  • Frame (found at Michael’s)
  • Paint (Behr’s Rosy Lavender)
  • Paint brush
  • Ribbon
  • Scrapbook paper in various prints
  • Pencil (not pictured)

I started on the paper flowers first. I used my Silhouette to cut out several spiral shapes in various sizes from the different pieces of scrapbook paper.

Now if you don’t have a Silhouette, these can totally be done by hand. You can skip the scalloped edge and just cut a regular spiral shape. I cut 60+ of them out of felt by hand for my felt flower Christmas wreath, and though it is a smidge time consuming, it is totally possible. Plus you’ll only need about ten spirals for this project– easy peasy!

To make the flowers, I started with the outside end of my spiral and began wrapping it around the pencil {1}.

I wrapped and wrapped and wrapped until the entire spiral was tightly encircling the pencil {2}, then I let it go and had a flower-ish shape.

I put two glue dots on the circular end of my spiral {3} and pressed the flower shape onto the circle to attach it.

I usually ended up putting one or two more glue dots within the layers of the flower to secure it as needed, and I had my pretty flower {4}!

After I had made all of my flowers, it was time to doctor up my frame. I removed the plastic that was meant to cover the picture, and I used pliers to pull out the small metal pieces meant to hold the picture in the frame.

Then all that was left to do was give the frame a few coats of paint and attach the flowers with my hot glue gun! I used ribbon to hang my new creation on the door, and I was done!!

Now I should note, after about a week of hanging vertically, a few of the paper flowers started to unravel a little with just the glue dots to hold them in place, so I ended up reinforcing them with a little bit of glue.

I originally used the glue dots just because I thought they would be simpler, but you might want to consider actual glue for the paper flowers if you end up trying this project.

So that’s another door decor project in the books! I’d better start thinking about my summer wreath now if I’m going to come up with something I haven’t done before… 😉 Enjoy your Easter weekend! Thanks for stopping by!

Abby I LOVE it!! It amazes me when I see totally cool things like this, that I never in a million years would have thought it up on my own.! I think that’s why I love Pinterest and follow amazing blogs like yours, because I can get ideas or be inspired to make something on my own! I haven’t done a wreath since Christmas, (I’m ashamed to say), just haven’t taken the time. But your adorable spring door frame has taught me that it doesn’t always need to be complicated to be AWESOME and cute☺ Thanks so much for sharing. Have an amazing Easter!~~♥Angie
