I almost can’t believe it, but my sweet little baby Caleb is going to be 3 at the end of this month! Where did THAT time go?! Since his actual birthday is a few days after my surgery and I doubt I’ll be up for throwing a party then, we are going to be celebrating with family and friends this weekend.

Birthdays finally “clicked” for Caleb when Connor turned 5 back in January, and he has been talking about his party ever since! We decided to go with a policeman/fireman theme, which also enabled us to use the red, white, and blue color scheme for 4th of July weekend. I love it when a plan comes together!

Now what would a party be without adorable favors? Since we are still just doing family parties and I’m only making favors for 5 children, I probably did a little more for these than I would have if we were having a larger get-together.

All of the components were really inexpensive, though, and thanks to my Silhouette Cameo, they were really easy to put together. Here’s what I used to make our personalized sand bucket party favors:

  • Adhesive vinyl graphics, cut with my Silhouette Cameo
  • Transfer paper
  • “Stop,” “Drop,” “& Roll” labels
  • Hershey’s Drops
  • Rolos
  • Gobstoppers
  • Sand buckets
  • Clear cellophane bags

Once I had collected all of my pieces and had my Silhouette cut my graphics for me, I began by adhering the graphics to my buckets.

First, I used transfer tape to place the word “Police” (1). I scraped it with my little tool so it would stick, then peeled away the transfer tape so just the word was left.

I then placed the background of the badge, scraping it to remove any air bubbles (2), added the second layer of the badge (3), and finally used the transfer tape method again to add a name to the other side of the bucket.

After I had applied the vinyl on each bucket, it was time to fill them up! For the “policeman” side of things, I chose some big bubble sticks because I thought they looked a little like police batons, and I also threw in some glow sticks (flares?).

To bring in the “fireman” part of the theme, I used Gobstoppers, Hershey’s Drops, and Rolos, and made some quick labels that said “Stop,” “Drop,” “& Roll.” {Yes, I’m corny! I blame my dad, the king of corny jokes!}

Then I just had to put it all together, and I had my favors all ready to go!

    These are super cute! For our parties last year I was able to find tons of art supplies at Michaels for $1…chalk, watercolors, etc. We just stuffed little paper bags, though. Love the idea of something do durable and personalized that they can use over and over!

    What brand of vinyl did you use on the precious sand buckets you made? I tried a matte-finish, repositionable vinyl sold by Hobby Lobby (an arts & crafts store) and it’s peeling off the buckets while they’re just sitting there. (I wiped the surface really well with alcohol and allowed it to dry before applying the decal, so I’m sure it’s the cheap vinyl I used!) Thanks in advance for your help and advice.
