Glam Fall Shelf Decor

Glam Fall Shelf Decor by Just a Girl and Her Blog

You may be starting to notice a theme around here lately. I have become just a teensy bit obsessed with all things shimmery, sparkly, and metallic. First there was my glam fall wreath. Then I confessed my love of gold polka dots. And now I’m back with even more shiny goodness– glam fall shelf decor!

We don’t have a mantel in our home, but we do have these fun shelves which have been decorated the same way since I styled them waaaaaaaay back in February. February. I know, right? Time for a change! I had been collecting little bits and pieces of things that I liked, but I’m not a great visualizer. I have to physically put things in a space and live with them for a little while to see if it’s what I want, tweaking and editing as it sits there day after day, so while that was happening my poor family had to stare at this:

As you can see, almost everything on the shelves received a little DIY treatment to get to the final product. I love looking at beautifully styled shelves, but you could literally spend hundreds of dollars on tchotchkes if you weren’t careful! My goal with my decor was to get a high-end look with a low-end price tag. Let’s check out the details.

I cut a piece of polka dotted wrapping paper to fit in a dollar store vase and added a black bow for some instant class. The gold stand is a dollar store candlestick and a child’s bowl (2/$1 at Target Dollar Spot!) spray painted gold and hot glued together.

I’m going to talk a little more about my chalkboard art a little later in the week, but it’s basically just a $3 Walmart frame, some paint, and a little bow. The smaller frame is a dollar store find prettified with gems that I had left over from my glam fall wreath. I whipped up the mini subway art over at picmonkey.com and printed it on cardstock.

I grabbed a candle stand that I had from our wedding and paired it with a candlestick I got on mega clearance ($3!) at Target then topped them with 97 cent pumpkins from Walmart. My original plan was to paint the pumpkins white, but I ended up liking the pops of color and the gold shimmer, so I left them alone.

The top shelf was pretty simple. I switched out the ribbon on some Dollar Spot pails from Target and filled them with spray painted sticks from my yard (free!). I bought an unfinished frame at Michael’s during a 50% off sale and spray painted it black with paint leftover from my outdoor bench. The garland was made with some glittery scrapbook paper, a circle punch, and some thread– easy peasy!

I’m loving how it turned out, and my family is probably loving that I don’t have a mishmash of random stuff sitting on our shelves anymore! 😉 It was fun to challenge myself to get a beautiful look for less. I was amazed at what I could save by being willing to do a little extra work myself! Check back later this week for more details on my chalkboard art. (Can you believe I waited this long to try a chalkboard paint project? And I call myself a blogger!) Have a wonderful Monday!

I am loving your shelves and all your do it yourself goodies. I love them more cause you took time to make them yourself. Anybody can run out to a store, it took imagination and effort to think up things that would look good that you had, my favorite kind of decorating. Awesome job.
Did you change your header? I don’t remember it looking that way. Love it if you did.
Have fun making Fall awesomeness ok? I sure am. One thing about living out away from stores is having to make do and luckily I’ve have everything I needed to make new things for Fall decorating. We finally found most of my Fall stuff but I’ve put more of it away than used. Our living room is pretty small so no room for too much of anything. I have more fun making things anyway. Happy week

  23. Hi Abby
Loving your blog. Ive only just come across it 🙂

Just wanted to ask, where did you purchase your dark walnut floating shelves from? I love the way they have that coving effect on them. most of the ones ive come across are just plain wood with plain edges etc. TIA

    1. justagirlabby says:

Hi there! The shelves are from Bed, Bath & Beyond, but I believe they were a wedding present, so that means they are about 10 years old! It’s worth checking, though– they may still carry something similar! Have a great week!

      ~Abby =)
