How It All Began…

In late December of 2012, I decided I wanted to start a blog. I had no idea what I wanted to write about, had only ever really read one blog in my life, and had absolutely no clue what I was doing. When I hit “Publish” on my first post in January 2013, the only thing that enabled me to do it was telling myself that no one was ever going to read my blog. It was just going to be this little project I had for myself, and it didn’t matter what other people thought because they weren’t going to see it anyway.

Fast forward to one year later. My little blog that no one was ever going to read had received almost a million pageviews, I had worked with brands like IKEA and Martha Stewart Crafts, and I was making more money each month than I had in my previous part-time job– all in just ONE YEAR!! It was absolutely crazy to me! And remember: I started out knowing nothing. Zilch. Zero.

Imagine my surprise, then, when around my one year mark of blogging I started receiving a steady stream of emails from bloggers and soon-to-be bloggers asking me for blogging advice. “Me?” I thought, “They’re asking me?!” But as the emails continued to roll in and I began responding to each one, I realized that maybe I had actually learned a thing or two about this blogging stuff. I also realized that there were a ton of people out there like I had been– looking for a creative outlet, wanting to start or grow their blog, but not knowing how to do it.

That’s when the idea for Building a Framework was born.

So a few months ago I escaped to a hotel room by myself for a weekend and started writing. I wrote and wrote and wrote. I tried to pinpoint every single thing that has been beneficial to me in helping to grow my blog– from building relationships with other bloggers, to connecting with brands, to increasing my readership, to making money. After that weekend was over, I continued to write, and for the past several months, I have poured everything I know about blogging onto the pages of this book with the hope that new bloggers or even veteran bloggers who are looking to try something different with their blogs would be able to learn from my successes and my mistakes.

FAQs

What if I don’t know a single thing about blogging?

Then this book is for you! I start waaaaaaaaaay back at the beginning of my blogging story and walk you through the process of brainstorming for and planning out your blog, getting the technical side of things set up, and giving you essential elements that you should make sure to include to make your blog successful from the start.

Shayna, The Wood Grain Cottage

Ariean, One Krieger Chick

But what if I’ve been blogging for a few years already?

Then this book is for you, too! I have always thought it would be so helpful to get a look at how another blogger did things, what strategies have worked for them, and how they ran their blog on a day-to-day basis. This book shares all of that. You truly get a behind-the-scenes look at everything that goes on at Just a Girl and Her Blog, and hopefully you’ll pick up some helpful info along the way!

Chelsea, Making Home Base

Amy, The Blissful Bee

April, House by Hoff

Your book has 29 chapters. That intimidates me.

There is no reason to be intimidated! Blogging is multi-faceted, so there are a lot of chapters because I tried to break everything down into small, manageable chunks. I also tried to give clear, straightforward action steps in each chapter so that you can walk away with actual strategies to put in place to grow your blog. With 190+ pages, you’ll be getting a lot of information, but with the way I lay it out and walk you through everything step-by-step, you’ll definitely be able to handle it!

Jen, Migonis Home

Sarah, Life on Virginia Street

Shelly, Dolen Diaries

Can’t I just go read some blog posts about blogging to help me get better?

You could. There are a lot of super-smart bloggers out there sharing great ideas. I would bet, though, that it would take you hours upon hours upon hours to search for and find all of the information that you’ll get in this one book, and it may not be as in-depth as the information I’m providing for you. You can skip the searching around– it’s all here!

Alison, Just Add Confetti

Katie, Made to Be a Momma

Okay, but what if I don’t like it?

I’m confident that the information in the pages of this book will be helpful and inspire you to grow your blog, but if you read through the whole thing, test out the strategies, and you still decide it wasn’t for you, we will happily refund your purchase.

Before You Go

I know from experience that blogging can be overwhelming and frustrating and exhausting and exhilarating and amazing and incredible all at the same time. I’ve definitely been through the ups and downs of it. I went through the “I want to start a blog but I don’t know how” phase. Once I got through that I moved on to, “I have this blog but no one is reading it and I feel lonely.” After that it was “Okay a few people are reading, but how do I get them to follow me on social media and keep them coming back?” And then of course, “How do I go about turning this awesome hobby of mine into a successful business?” I’ve been there. I know how it feels. I’m proof, though, that even without any prior blogging knowledge (which won’t be you, because you’ll soon know everything I know!) it is possible to start, build, grow, and turn a blog into a business in not too long of a time period.

You know that girl who didn’t know how to start a blog? Her work has been showcased on major websites like Apartment Therapy, GoodHousekeeping.com, and Money Saving Mom, and she has worked with brands like IKEA, Staples, and Behr. The one who didn’t think anyone would ever read her blog? She now gets over 200,000 pageviews each month. The girl who was worried that she would be all by herself on her social media channels? She has thousands and thousands of followers to interact with each day. And the girl who didn’t know if this thing called blogging could ever become more than just a hobby? She is making more money each month than she did at her previous part-time job and continues to grow her business each and every month. It’s possible. It’s SO possible.

If I can do it, you can do it too, and you have an advantage– I’m giving all the tools and knowledge that I didn’t have when I started! I can’t wait to see your blog grow! Now go out there and conquer the blogging world!
