I’m Dreaming of a White… Felt Flower Christmas Wreath!

Felt Flower Christmas Wreath by Just a Girl and Her Blog

I am so excited to share my felt flower Christmas wreath with you today!

Do you ever get an idea in your head that just won’t go away? That’s how this wreath was for me.

I fell in love with felt flower wreaths after seeing several on Pinterest and Etsy, and though I knew it would be a time-intensive project, I just had to have one of those beauties for myself.

Here’s what I used to create it:

  • Wreath form
  • 2 yards of white felt
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun (and LOTS of glue sticks!)
  • 2 rolls of white ribbon
  • Round items to help make circles– I used a CD for my small circles and a dollar store bucket for my large circles.

Step 1- Wrap Wreath Form in Ribbon

My wreath form was green and my flowers were going to be white. I knew at least a little bit of the form would be showing through once I attached all of my flowers, so I used two rolls of white ribbon to wrap my wreath form. It doesn’t need to be perfect (mine is definitely not!), but it just gives a nice background for the felt flowers.

Step 2- Make a Zillion Felt Flowers

Though it takes a lot of time, this wreath is pretty simple to create once you know how to make the flowers. I used the same method as I did with my paper flowers for my faux Christmas wreath.

Use an item (such as a CD) to gauge the size of your flower so that they’re all similar (1). You can trace around it and cut along the line if you’d like; I just eyeballed it to cut out my circle (2). Cut a spiral shape into your circle (3). Put a dot of hot glue on the back of the center of your spiral (4) and begin wrapping the felt around itself, placing a dab of hot glue every 3/4 rotation or so (5). Continue to wrap until you come to the end of your felt and secure the end with a small dot of glue (6). Repeat a million times. Okay, not a million, but I did use 59 felt flowers on my wreath– 15 large flowers (using the bucket as my template) and 44 small flowers (using the CD). If you’re counting, not all of them are shown below. 😉

Step 3- Hot Glue Flowers to the Wreath Form

I planned to use 3 rows of flowers on my wreath– one row on the front, one row on the inside, and one row on the outside. I began by using my 15 large flowers to create the row on the front side of the wreath.

Next I hot glued a row of small flowers on the inside of the wreath…

I finished up by adding the last row of small flowers on the outside of the wreath, attached a ribbon and…

I had the felt flower Christmas wreath I had been dreaming of! Usually after I’m done with a wreath for the season, I end up taking it apart and using the form for another wreath. I think I’m going to have to invest in a new wreath form now, though, because after all the hours it took to wrap the flowers for this one, there’s no way I’m taking it apart! 😉

I’m so happy with how it turned out, and I bet I could even add some color here and there and use it for other seasons as well. We’ll see!

How is your Christmas decorating going? Did you wait until today to get started? Or have you had it up for weeks?

Oh my goodness. I LOVE felt flower wreaths…and this all white one is so chic, so wintry, so wonderful…I want to make one NOW! (If only we didn’t live in Florida where the bugs seem to flock to our front door like moths to the flame. Maybe it could be an indoor wreath?) Either way, it’s gorgeous!

    1. justagirlabby says:

Thank you so much, my friend! Ew for bugs, but I say the more wreaths the better, so I vote for indoor too! 😀 Hope you are having a wonderful week!
