It’s Monday! And I’m excited to kick off the week with a fabulous stenciled pillowcase project! I absolutely love how simple this project was to complete. I used paint, stencils, and tools from Tulip for Your Home, and I was able to complete my entire project, including drying time and photographs, in less than one nap time! And now I have a new bold pillow for my home! LOVE! Here are the supplies I used for this oh-so-simple endeavor:

  • Spray adhesive
  • Soft matte fabric paint (I ended up using “Blueberry” and “Tomato.”)
  • Foam roller
  • Small textile stencil (Loving the lips!)
  • Large textile stencil (in leopard print)
  • Pillowcase

Step 1- Apply Spray Adhesive

I had never used spray adhesive on a stencil when working with fabric before, but I may never go without it again! It made it so easy to create a pattern with crisp, clean lines and no bleeding! I simply sprayed a light layer over the matte side of my large stencil and centered it on my pillowcase.

Step 2- Roll On Paint

After placing a piece of wax paper inside my pillowcase to prevent bleeding, I squirted a generous amount of my “Blueberry” fabric paint onto a paper plate, dipped my foam roller in the paint, and began painting my design. When I had filled in the entire pattern, I allowed it to dry for a few minutes to prevent smearing, and then I pulled up my stencil.

Step 3- Add Second Stencil

I allowed my first painted layer to dry completely while I washed off my stencil and my roller, and then it was time to add my second stencil– the lips! I just repeated the same steps I had done with the first layer: apply spray adhesive to the matte side of the stencil, place it on the pillowcase, and roll on the paint!

I just had to wait a few minutes for my paint to dry, and I had…

Too cute! I am impressed with how the red paint covered the blue animal print so well. My front porch needs some pillow and this might be a great, creative way to add some color. 😉

Thanks, Danielle! I’m mostly just planning on using it for decor purposes, but I left the back blank, so I figure if I need a nap I can flip it over and not even worry about the paint part! 🙂 Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!

So fun! I just left Krista’s blog and was admiring her file cabinet…maybe we should try a “Stencil” theme for one of our party challenges? Might help me to overcome my stencil-challenged self! This turned out perfectly 🙂
