A Thrifty Christmas Vignette

The longer we live in this house, more and more shelves seem to pop up on our walls, which of course means I need to decorate them. What a conundrum. 😉 Fortunately, creating little seasonal vignettes is one of my favorite things to do when it comes to decorating, so I will gladly tackle each and every shelf that makes its way into our home!

Most recently, I set to work on the one in our powder room. It may be little, but it needed a little sprucing up for the holidays, so I decided to give it a go. Now truth be told, the easiest way to create a vignette may be to think of a theme/color scheme and then go out and buy all sorts of stuff that matches it. However, as I have previously mentioned, I am just about the cheapest person on the planet, so I challenged myself to decorate this space using only things that I already owned.

When I was looking through my stash, I came across this framed deer head that I put together waaaaaaaaaaaaay back during my first year of blogging.

The frame was a thrifted find that I gave new life with a little bit of paint, and the “print” was actually just a piece of scrapbook paper with a deer head cutout taped to it. Reindeer are perfect for Christmas, of course, so I knew that if I just switched out the background paper, I would have a pretty little holiday piece for myself! I dug out some wrapping paper, swapped out the background, added a cute bow for a final touch, and for a grand total of $0, I had Christmas art!

Then all that was left to do was to surround it with pretties! I found an old box from the Cs’ Legos and wrapped it up all pretty. {Yep, it’s empty! 🙂 } I grabbed some dollar store jingle bells that I’ve had for years and put them in a little ramekin.

Since I admittedly have a black thumb, I always keep plenty of faux IKEA plants around, so one of those made it onto the shelf to add a bit of green to the mix. A silvery candle holder added a bit of sparkle, and finally, I threw a fuzzy ball garland in there for some fun!

It’s simple, it’s pretty, and most importantly, it didn’t even cost me one cent! Now that’s my kind of decorating budget! 🙂

Abby! This is so cute….which is not good for me 🙂 I JUST cleaned out my Christmas boxes to downsize. The last few years my life is beginning to shift seasons again and it felt too hard to decorate all over. But, your pics are so cute and doable, now I want to decorate more rooms again! Very nice work. Have a blessed Christmas
