Planning a Fabulously Feminine Home Office

Planning a Fabulously Feminine Home Office by JustAGirlAndHerBlog.com

You guys, I honestly didn’t know if this day would ever come, and I can’t even begin to express how excited I am about it. For most of the time that we’ve lived in our current home, my projects and craft endeavors have been pretty much homeless.

I had a tiny nook for storage in the basement and did most of my projects at the dining room table– I was always in everyone’s way! Then last fall we moved the Cs into a shared bedroom, and all of the sudden I had a whole room all to myself. *Squeal!!!*

I was just so thankful to have a space to call my own that I didn’t even care what it looked like. I went around the house, stealing every available surface and storage vessel I could find and trying to create some semblance of organization in my room, which currently looks like this:

Holy cow. It looks like a craft supply store threw up on that side of the room, right? And I even straightened up a little bit for you. The other side of the room holds my work table and of course more random craft supplies:

This is real life, people. Believe it or not, this is an improvement. It used to look like this {Have young children avert their eyes. This is scary. 😉 }:

It was time for some serious work to happen in this room. I pulled together a plan for the room, my friends at Staples pulled through in a BIG way with some storage (love them!), and hopefully you’ll see a room that looks more like this in the not-too-distant future:

bookshelves | cube unit | peg board | paint color- Behr Swan Sea | rail & basket | paint color | curtains | paint color | fabric | baskets | cube bins- Target | candles | decorative pot | chair | desk

Ooh I’m just so thrilled I can hardly stand it! I finally get to work on a feminine home office in this house full of boys! Woohoo!

To choose the color palette, I started with the fabric and used it to guide the rest of my choices. You all were a HUGE help this weekend when I asked for opinions on paint colors on my Facebook page and InstagramThank YOU! I think we’ve finally settled on a winner for that!

I’m loving the white bookshelves, and I’m planning to add some color to the back of them somehow to give them some interest. And I can guarantee you’ll be seeing bins and baskets galore! My parents actually had some old pieces of pegboard laying around in a building they use for their non-profit, so I’m going to use one of those for some wall storage as well.

Are you excited?! I know I am! Don’t worry– I haven’t forgotten about the living room. We’re making progress on it as well, but we had always planned to do that room slowly and surely, so it’s coming along! Lots of fun projects happening around here for sure! Be sure to pop back in soon for some more updates and sneak peeks! Have a wonderful week!

What are your best tips for home office/craft room storage and organization? I need all the help I can get!

Oooh I can’t wait to see this come together! All my craft supplies live in one very disorganized dresser, so I’ll be living vicariously through you! Love your plan; it’s going to be gorgeous!

Thank you, my friend! We shall see how it goes! I’m excited to finally get some girly-ness up in here! And if I totally screw it up, I’m coming to sulk in your new gorgeous closet. 😀 Hope you have a wonderful week!

Exciting! I really like the color palate you chose. I’ve been dying to redo our home office, but the hubby doesn’t like my ideas as much, and since he uses the space a lot for our business, I need to find a compromise. Super excited to see the final product!

    1. justagirlabby says:

Oh those hubbies…when are they going to learn to just trust us?! 😉 I hope you can convince him! My hubby is always completely skeptical of every project I start, and then I do it and he loves it. {Most of the time, lol.} Such a man! Have a wonderful week, Miss Tiffany!

      ~Abby =)

  5. So excited to see the finished room! I’m sure is very fun mixing in some girly decor- have fun!

Thank you, Keri! Yay– finally some girly stuff in this house! And none of the boys can say anything about it! 😉 Thanks so much for stopping by, friend!

  6. EEK! How exciting!!!! I can’t wait to see what you come up with…you’re always so creative! I’m loving the colors in that little preview! I look forward to hopefully having my own space/craft room one day..but I think something I’d think about whenever I get to planning it is placement. Placement of storage, shelves, boxes, whatever you’re using. I’d think about what I use daily and want to easily grab while sitting at my desk (or craft table, whatever), so that I’m not digging through things or going all the way to the other side of the room to get it. I don’t know, I get lazy..so placement would be huge for me haha.
Have fun creating your fun room!! I can’t wait to see 😀

Oooh fantastic tips, Pamela! Thank you so much! I get in the rut of always just throwing things wherever there’s space, but you’re totally right– placement makes all the difference! Hope you have a great week!

That is soo exciting Abby! Love the fabric you chose… And the color scheme! I just bought that pot (sitting next to the candles in the picture) at Ikea… So darn cute! Look forward to seeing the end result!

    1. justagirlabby says:

Thanks so much, Kendra! LOVE IKEA! We’ll see how it all comes together! Have a wonderful week!

    1. justagirlabby says:

Thank you so much, Renee! Yes, mine was totally a nightmare, but hopefully we’re on the right track now! We shall see! Have a great week!

Great inspiration! Thanks for sharing. I just recently made over our home office and it totally changes the way I feel about my work (and my work space!). Pinned!

    1. justagirlabby says:

That’s what I’m hoping for, Blair! I put off decorating my own space because I felt like the family spaces needed attention first (such a mom thing to do, right?!), but I think it will payoff in the end. Thanks so much for visiting my blog! Have a wonderful week!

I am so happy that I stumbled onto your blog. I am totally in the same boat right at this moment. Funny enough the colors I picked for my home office was white and power blue. We are still in the planning stages, but very excited. Good luck and I can’t wait to see how it turns out. You’ve got a new follower in me!!

    1. justagirlabby says:

Yay! How exciting! Sounds like it’s going to be beautiful! I think it will be fun to have a space that’s all “me”! Have fun with your office!

      ~Abby =)

  11. Krista @ the happy housie says:

Such a pretty plan! I love the fabric and the blue accents with the white shelving… our craft room/office has been ‘under construction’ for a while now… so I can really understand those before pictures. Though of course I did have my boys looks away. I don’t need any nightmares around here:)

    1. justagirlabby says:

I hear ya! Mine has been total chaos for a while now, so hopefully I’ll be able to get it under control! And no boys allowed, lol!

I am sitting in my office right now! lol and it’s a mess! ….and it’s driving me crazy! Next on the list (after the master closest, the farm sink/cabinet, the bookcase wall!lol) We have a small 4th spare bedroom that I use. I have visions of something really fun & colorful, then I go back to my soft and feminine teal and pink, really girly room thought. I don’t know yet! Can not wait to see yours come all together!! I know it will be perfect!

  19. I decided to check out your blog and I’m so excited for your room makeover. I know that you had redone your bookcases, but I didn’t know that you were redoing your entire room. I’m sure it will be gorgeous! I decided to redo mine as well recently. I’m still in the early planning stages and will be doing it little by little, so I can’t wait to see what more you’ve done/do for inspiration as you’ve already inspired me.
