Plan to Achieve Your Goals This Year!

Make Your Goals Happen by Just a Girl and Her Blog

You don’t have to be around this blog very long to figure out that I am a big fan of setting goals. I love making lists and plans, figuring things out, and dreaming big.

But even more than dreaming and planning my goals, I love achieving them! Today I’m sharing with you how I set my goals, how I take strides toward making them happen, and what tools I use to help. {Read: FREE printables! And you can see all 50+ free printables we offer on the blog in our free organizing printables library!}

So we’ve all heard that our goals should be SMART, right? If you’re a little rusty, this means that they should be:

In order to make SMART goals this year, I put together a pretty little printable to help me, and I’m sharing it with you as well!

To make sure I achieve my goals, I have to have a plan in place to make them happen. So rather than just making a list of goals I’d like to achieve when I happen to have some spare time (i.e. never), I also include action steps to take and a deadline by which to take them.

In my 2014 goals post I mentioned that I wanted to make sure I incorporated exercise into my routine this year. I made that goal specific and measurable by adding that I want to work out at least three times per week. I know that three times/week is totally attainable at this point in my life and staying active is always on my priority list, it is also relevant.

Finally, I made it time-bound by setting a deadline of doing it every week in 2014 (other than during surgery recovery) and a sort of “halfway” deadline/goal of running in the Pittsburgh marathon relay with some of my friends in May.

Okay, I had my goals set, and they were SMART. Next I wanted to make sure I stuck with them throughout the year! I was creating my own yearly calendar anyway, so I went ahead and added a space on each page to list the goals I want to work on for that month. That way, any time I reference my calendar, my goals are staring me in the face and I can be sure to schedule in time to work on them.

And you can have these, too, if you’d like! {All 12 months included!}

UPDATE: You can download a free printable 2019 calendar here!

I have always heard that you plan for the year at the beginning of the year, the month at the beginning of the month, the week at the beginning of the week, and the day at the beginning of the day. I shared how I plan my goals for the day when I told you How I Organized My Whole Life.

The printables above can help you plan your year and your month. And if you didn’t already think I was crazy enough about goal setting and planning, today I’m over at Mom 4 Real sharing my weekly goal planning strategy and printable, so make sure to pop on over to Jessica’s site and check it out!

So there you have it: year, month, week, day. Boom. Looks like somebody’s going to be crushing their goals this year! Now download the printables and hop to it!!! 😉

    Abby, Awesome printables! That’s fantastic that you are going to be a regular contributor to Mom4Real. Congrats!

    I am a big fan of time blocking too. At work, I time block all of my tasks in Outlook. As things come up, I put the task on my calendar and rearrange the tasks based on when they need to get done. It really helps me out when things are busy! Then when someone asks if I have time for something, I pull up my Calendar and they can see how busy or not busy I am, then I work in when I can work on their task. It also helps keep me from forgetting what I need to get done.

    I think you are right on that whole goals/listing soul mates. hehe!

    Hope you have a wonderful week! Hugs!

  4. Thank you so much for this! I’ve also realized that I don’t accomplish my goals if I don’t make a plan to achieve them. Just assuming that something will get done at some point is basically saying, this is never going to happen. I’ve been looking for a way to improve on this during 2014, and I think these printables will help me do that. Have a blessed day!

  10. I think it is so freaking awesome you are so goal oriented. Something I really need to work on achieving goals and balancing my life. I have two little girls, a husband, work, and I organize my immediate family! Your prinatbles are great and so user friendly. I’m glad they are accessible too, some bloggers charge or you have to email first just to print or see a version of it. Your monthly goals remind me of the Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. Great read. Well you are doing really remarkable, great role model and inspiration to busy moms everywhere!

    These printables are AWESOME. I’m super inspired to get serious about my goals now. I kind of want to put down the computer and do a workout, but it’s 12:42 a.m. and I gotta get some sleep. 🙂 Thanks for the great printables!

    1. justagirlabby says:

      Bwahahaha! You better not have started a workout at 12:42 am! I am guilty of burning the midnight oil, too, but I can’t say I’ve ever worked out at that time. 😀 Thanks so much for stopping by, Kelly! Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

      1. Hi Abby, when can the 2015 Calendar be expected?! So wonderful! 🙂

    By jolly, you just might have inspired me to even make any goals. One for sure would be learning how to put photos of our merchandise on here so we can advertise them and just maybe sell a few things. We finally got a digital camera few months ago so need to learn how to use for purpose we bought it. That’s my first goal.
    2nd. goal – Then we have to get shed cleared out so hubs can work out there this winter. For now that’ll be it. I printed out Oct-Dec. calendar and the goal sheet. Did one for our daughter also.
    I Have a nice binder to put all this in to keep on track, will keep it out here by computer. Both hubs and I have our computers in mudroom. Had problem with router for so long got tired of not being able to get online so moved my pc out here. Only thing is it’s too easy to sit down and hours later I’m still on, haven’t gotten things done, another reason I need this inspiration. While I’m waiting for pc to download something many times I go do a chore til it’s done then go back to see if download accomplished. It’s actually amazing how much I can get done that way.
    Thank you so much Abby, see what you’ve done for one of worst procrastinators ever?
    Hey any little bit can help a person that hates to make plans, is spontaneously natured. Maybe I’ll learn something about my self in all this. Happy week
