Of all the rooms in our new house, I think I have most been looking forward to decorating our sunroom for Christmas. Since we’ve moved in, it has quickly become our most favorite room in the house, largely due to its gorgeous view!

We gather here in the morning when we’re beginning our work for the day or in the evening while the sun sets and enjoy time as a family, so I knew that with some added Christmas decor, the sunroom would become even cozier. Since I haven’t shared a lot of progress posts about our living spaces yet, I’m excited to share how things are shaping up in this room as well!

The sunroom is right off the kitchen and living room areas, all of which form a great room of sorts. Many people who have our same floor plan use this space as a breakfast nook with a table and chairs, but we decided to make it a little seating area instead, and we are loving it so far.

Since we haven’t painted most of the rooms in the house yet, everything was pretty stark and empty feeling. To combat that until we choose paint colors and final wall decor, I’ve been bringing in interest with textiles– comfy blankets, cushy pillows, and rugs for added texture.

You can typically find me with a cozy blanket on my lap at any time of the year, but I always bring out a few extras when the cold weather starts rolling in to up the coziness factor even more!

Since buffalo check is a theme running throughout my Christmas decor this year, I was so excited to find the BACKVIAL blanket at IKEA that closely mimics the buffalo check pattern. (Technically I think it’s a bedspread, but the twin size is working perfectly as a throw on the love seat!) I also grabbed the URSULA throw and STOCKHOLM pillow to add to the space along with a few other pillows that I already had.

I love that all of the cotton that IKEA uses for their textiles is sustainably grown, and they also often incorporate natural materials like jute (as seen in my cute LOHALS rug!) which are durable and recyclable.

These factors stem from IKEA’s mission of Democratic Design, where every product they make has to meet their high standards in 5 areas: form, function, price, quality, and sustainability. So if you’ve ever wondered why IKEA’s products all seem so smartly crafted while still being affordable… it’s because they do it on purpose!

One of the problems that I’ve run into in the new house is that since we have more space, we don’t have quite enough furniture to fill it up quite yet. I love finding neutral pieces that are super versatile and will be able to work in different spaces around the house as I play with furniture layouts and try to find the best setup for us. I chose the LOHALS rug because it looks beautiful alone, but I could also easily layer it in the future if I want to bring more color into this space.

Similarly, the white KRAGSTA nesting tables were a no brainer for my house because I decorate with a lot of white anyway and can use them to hold decor like I did in this room, as end tables in the living room, or even as cute nightstands in our bedroom if I want to.

With more spaces to decorate than in our last house, we also had to boost our stash of Christmas decor this year, and believe me, I’m not complaining about it! 😉 Connor (age 7) and I went to our local IKEA one afternoon and pretty much raided their entire Winter Holidays Collection. I snagged a FEJKA mini tree and some ornaments… he insisted on the cushy VINTER slippers!  (And seriously, I should have gotten 4 pairs. Everyone in our family fights over who gets to wear them because they are so warm and comfortable! 🙂 )

Karin Gustavsson is the creator of this year’s Winter Holidays Collection, and I think she was right on when she said, “For me winter holiday is a lot about family and friends. It is that time of the year when you share together, food, time and lots of love.” That is exactly how we use this space, and I love how the Christmas decorative elements make it even more cozy and inviting for guests and for our own family as well.

And speaking of cozy… I’ve realized that I kind of have a thing for Christmas lights. They’re just so sparkly and twinkly and make the house feel so homey and comfortable, especially at night. I’ve been sneaking them into all of my Christmas spaces, and this one was no exception!

I thought we were spending tons of time in the sunroom before, but with the added touches for Christmas, I find myself wandering in there even more!

Love the buffalo check and I have been looking for a jute rug just like this. Time for a trip to IKEA!

. I get teased all the time for snuggling up with a blanket or throw living in Florida. ?

Your sunroom looks so cozy and comfy. I can only imagine looking out the window and seeing that beautiful view you have covered in snow.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who is cold ALL the time! Lol! And yes– IKEA has some awesome finds right now! I think I’m headed back there soon myself! 🙂 Hope you’re having a wonderful week, Diane!

  2. Abby, It looks amazing! I love that you chose to make it a sitting area instead of an eating area.

    1. justagirlabby says:

Thank you, friend! I’m taking a page out of your book and trying to make the spaces we need instead of what the house “says” they should be! 🙂 And that sign from you still totally makes the room! Thanks again! Hugs!

Any room with a Christmas tree is my favorite at this time of year. I love sitting with all the lights off and just the Christmas lights creating a cozy mood!

Also, I’m literally always under a blanket too ? My husband wonders why we use air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter. I just like coziness, what can I say. So yay for a fellow blanket lover!

So glad I’m not the only one! My son Connor inherited the blanket gene too. If I’m ever missing a blanket, I can almost guarantee I’ll find it on his bed! 🙂 Hope you’re having a great week, Christene!

So pretty and classic! You can’t go wrong with classic! Is the seating furniture from IKEA too? I may have missed that part. Looks awesome!

    1. justagirlabby says:

Thank you, Sarah! The seating is actually outdoor furniture from Wayfair. Once Donnie builds our patio next summer, it will most likely move outside, but it’s fitting well in this space for now! Have a great week!
