Our First Christmas Home Tour at Orchard House!

It’s Christmas home tour day!

I’m especially excited about this particular tour because it’s the first one that I’m doing in our new house! Yay!

Moving into a new house is a funny thing.  I feel like we’ve been working nonstop over the past few months to make our spaces live-able, and yet we still have a long, long, LONG way to go.

So as a fair warning, I didn’t decorate as many spaces as I usually do for these tours. And we haven’t painted walls in any of the spaces I’m going to show you. And most of the spaces don’t have their “final” furniture yet.

But one of the reasons I love blogs is because you get to follow along with the journey and see progress along the way, and I thought a home tour would be a great way to share some of the progress we’ve made, so let’s dive in!

First up, our outdoor decor! Decorating an outdoor space was a totally new thing for me because our townhouse was tucked back away from the road, and since no one ever saw the front of it (including us because we entered through the garage), I never bothered to decorate it!

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the outdoor decor in the new house, though, and even just some simple (faux) greenery and cute outdoor chairs made a big difference.

C’mon in!

Our entry is definitely a work in progress! I’ve actually ordered a cute piece of furniture for this space, but it hasn’t come in yet, so right now I’m using a dresser that was in my boys’ old room! It does give us a nice little spot to set keys and provides some good storage space, though.

I made this “O Come Let Us Adore Him” sign my very first year blogging, and I think I’ve used it every year since! It was before my Silhouette days, so I cut out each one of those letters by hand from scrapbook paper and used a good old fashioned stencil and paint for the stars. 🙂

Our Tree

If you continue down the hallway and into the living room, you’ll spot our tree!

We’ve used a faux tree the past two years, and although I feel like I’m cheating a bit (we always had a real tree growing up!), I must say that I absolutely love it. The setup is easy, there’s no maintenance (or messy needles), and we can use it year after year!

You’ll notice a lot of buffalo check and plaid as part of our Christmas decor this year, and the tree is certainly no exception. I made simple bows out of some wired ribbon and added red, white, and silver ornaments. But do you know what the hardest part of the tree was?

The topper. I think I bought and tried out like 7 or 8 different toppers and none of them looked right to me. Donnie thought I was nuts, but I was determined. And then I found this red one…

…in our basement…

…that I bought 10 years ago…

…at Wal-mart…

…in Yuma, Arizona when we lived there…

…and it was the big winner.

Isn’t that always how it works out?! Eeek! (Needless to say, I now have a lot of returning to do. 🙂 )

We haven’t done many updates in the living room yet, but I did pick a rug! (And I LOVE it!) You can see it peeking into a few of these shots!

Sunroom

Right near the living room is our sunroom, which is quite possibly my favorite room in the house. We spend a lot of time in there as a family, and I have BIG plans for this space… eventually. 🙂

Right now we’re using our outdoor furniture in here– it ended up being the perfect size! Whenever Donnie builds the patio next summer, though, it will probably head outside and we’ll get different pieces. But we’re enjoying it here for now!

This room has a great view of the peach orchard that is right in our back yard and the hills and farmland beyond. My sweet friend Jackie sent us the cute “Orchard” sign as a housewarming gift, and it couldn’t be more perfect!

I love pillows and throws at all times of year, but I seem to especially load up on them in the colder months! We certainly ended up with plenty of them in this room! 🙂

You can see our cute DIY stocking holder peeking out in the corner, too! Little Caleb has already been making little “treasures” and sticking them in the stockings for everyone to find on Christmas morning. 🙂

Dining Room

Finally, let’s head into the dining room! I will be sharing the full room next week sometime, but I did want to give you a sneak peek!

We’ve done a little bit of updating in this room so far. You can see the new light fixture peeking into the shot above. And we’ve also put in some really beautiful wood shuttersyou can see my whole post on that process here. We love them so much!

Wow! Absolutely stunning Abby! You would never know that you had just moved if it were just a gallery of pictures. You’ve done an amazing job bringing holiday cheer into your new home. I love that you’re using stuff you already had in spaces until you find the “right” piece.

Also–I totally had the same AHA moment with my tree topper this year! I bought a similar gold star topper from Target and it was at the bottom of the Christmas boxes. I almost missed it!

    Happy Holidays!

  18. Hi Abby – How much fun to decorate your new house for your first Christmas! Our first Christmas in our forever home, we had literally moved just a couple of weeks prior so it was boxes and barely a tree. But the next year was so exciting to decorate, I was living vicariously through your excitement and remembering back to our first forever home Christmas! Your decorations are just stunning. I love this time of year to see all of the home tours. Everyone is so festive and love all of the decorating ideas this year. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Hugs, Holly

    1. justagirlabby says:

Aw thank you, Holly! It is such a fun time! I hope you all have a Merry Christmas as well!

  19. Christene Holder says:

Looks amazing Abby! Love your Christmas style. I had some tree topper dilemma this year as well. Last year we didn’t even have one… but this year I couldn’t decide on one. I was a little frantic trying to find on before I took my home tour pictures, so I totally went the budget route and made one using my Cricut. And you know what, I think it actually looks pretty good 🙂
LOL I love that yours was just in your basement the whole time – this is why I tell my husband I need to keep things ? “I might need it later!”

The house is looking great! I can’t wait to see what you do next. And I’m really excited for the plantation shutter post because we’re looking at buying some for one of the spaces in our townhome.
