Christmas Home Tour 2014

Welcome to our 2014 Christmas home tour, friends! I’m so glad you’re here!

I’m Abby, and you are about to step into my home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that I share with my wonderful hubby and two darling sons, ages 5 and 3. Our house isn’t huge, but it’s our home and we love it, and I am so excited to be able to share it with you today! Come on in!

I’m always on the hunt for unique and creative door decor, and I recently whipped up this non-traditional woodland “wreath” to adorn our door during this Christmas season.

As you come inside, you’d notice that we have a very open floor plan. In fact, our main level is pretty much one big room. We’ve separated it into “zones,” if you will, the first one being the dining room.

Now this definitely isn’t our everyday dinnerware– usually the Cs are eating off of plastic plates! But for Christmas we break out the good stuff, a mix of newer items and heirloom pieces from both of my grandmothers.

Wanna know how to dress up your chairs in the easiest way possible? Add a bow and an ornament! Doesn’t get much simpler than that!

The dining area flows into the “living room” part of our space, and since we spend a lot of time in here, I just wanted it to be cozy and comfortable.

I filled a tray with ornaments and jingle bells and used a couple of wrapped gifts to dress up our coffee table along with a little faux fur rug to add the coziness factor.

The cozy continues over on the couch where I barely got a picture of this fuzzy throw and soft pillows before the Cs snatched them up to cuddle with them. 🙂

And speaking of those cute little Cs, they have their own little spot in the main living area too! We’ve been calling this our “Christmas corner” (for obvious reasons 🙂 ).

The gold and white boxes off to the side are our advent calendar for this year, and the boys can barely wait to open one each morning. We’ve been breaking out our Christmas books as well. It’s fun to see what they remember of the stories from years past.

This stocking holder was another new addition to our Christmas decor this year. Since we don’t have a mantel our stockings never had a good home, and this project was a simple solution to that problem!

If you’ve spent much time at Just a Girl and Her Blog, you knew this was coming! Each season I change out the decor on these floating shelves. It has become a fun challenge to keep coming up with fresh ideas and new arrangements.

My favorite thing on the shelves this Christmas has to be the “O Holy Night” canvas. It was a project that almost went terribly wrong, but ended up turning out better than I could have imagined!

And last but not least– our tree! Donnie and I both grew up with live trees, and we have continued that tradition in our family as well. This year we used primarily gold and silver ornaments for a little bit of a glammy look. 🙂

(Can you believe those deer ornaments are from the dollar store?! I saw them last year and scooped up a bunch of them because I loved them so much!)

It’s killing the Cs to have so many presents under the tree that they aren’t allowed to open! Christmas will be here before we know it, though, so that pretty packaging won’t last much longer!

Your home is so pretty Abby! I love seeing how you change up the floating shelves. I sure wish we could have a real tree….allergies get us! Merry Christmas ~Sonya

Oh those allergies! Sometimes I think an artificial tree would just be so much easier (and less mess! 😉 but we haven’t taken the leap yet! It was fun being on tour with you, Sonya! Hope you have a wonderful week!

Your home looks so pretty all dressed up for Christmas, Abby! I can totally relate to the throw and pillows barely being photographed before the munchkins got a hold of them. Brennan just cannot let a neatly placed throw stay that way! Love how pretty your packages are too! XO

Seriously, those boys! I’m surprised I’m ever able to get pictures! 🙂 Thanks so much, friend! Hope you have a wonderful week!

  10. Wow, that’s awesome! I always want to do seasonal decorating but I never know where to put each season’s decorations when it’s not that season. (There’s only so much room in the garage and in tubs after all.) Have you made a post about how you organize and store your decorations during off seasons? 🙂 🙂

    1. justagirlabby says:

Hi, Jackie! There never seems to be enough storage, right?! I struggle with the same thing. I try to limit the number of decorations that are strictly Christmas, and the ones that are go in the tubs in the garage. Much of my decor can be used for other seasons as well when styled the right way, so I keep those types of items in my office so I have easier access to them. We also try to follow the “one in, one out” rule– when we get something new we throw away/donate something so that our house isn’t overflowing with stuff. I hope this helps! Have a wonderful week!

  12. Amanda @ Dwelling in Happiness says:

Love your tour and home, Abby! Your house sounds like ours. After walking in the front door, our living room, dining room, and Kitchen are all one huge room that I’ve “tried” to split into 3 separate rooms as best as I could. It’s a hard task! I love your little stocking’s holder, and your tree is just gorgeous! Such a cozy home perfect for the holidays. 🙂

    1. justagirlabby says:

Thank you so much, friend! Yes, that open concept thing can be a hard one to figure out! I’m constantly fiddling with ours! Hope you have a wonderful week!

      ~Abby =)
