A Peek at My Sister’s Bridal Shower!

Y’all, sometimes in life there is an event in life so wonderfully exciting that I have to put away my “blogger” self and just be in the moment. Today’s post is entirely made up pictures shot with my iPhone or a little point and shoot. I missed a ton of detail shots that my blogger self would have been sure to get. It probably is not the most eloquently worded post I’ve ever written because I fully plan on gushing all over the pages of my blog with excitement. 😀

Sometimes, though, that same event is so incredibly delightful that I can’t not share it with you, and today is one of those days. My baby sister is getting married, and this weekend we had her bridal shower. Okay, so she’s not really a baby. She’s only three years younger than me, but you fellow big sisters understand what I mean, right? To you, she’ll always be your baby sister. It doesn’t feel like all that long ago that she and I were staying up way too late in our shared room and planning all of the details of our “dream weddings.”

And while I’m sure her idea of the perfect wedding day has changed since our elementary school planning sessions, I am so beyond thrilled that Brittany has found her perfect match in Jon, and their shower celebration could not have been more wonderful or more “them.”

You see, Brittany is not the type to want all of the attention on herself, but she is the type to want to spend time with all of the people she loves. She and Jon are also HUGE Steelers fans, so instead of a traditional girls-only shower with bridal bingo and trivia questions about the bride and groom, they decided on a couples shower during the Steelers game, complete with a block pool and football food! 🙂 To say it was a blast would be an understatement!

There were no flower-y or frilly invitations here. Guests were sent “tickets” inviting them to the big event instead!

{I mean, are they not the cutest couple ever?!}

And for the decor, we stuck with a black and gold color scheme rather than the wedding colors. Despite being a huge sports fan, my sister is also a girly girl, so we did go a more formal route than your typical football get-together. It was a nice mix of sports and shower, and again, it was so fitting for the bride and groom!

My parents’ non-profit has a big building that was perfect for the occasion, with a huge projector to show the game and room to seat the 100+ guests in attendance. It was also already conveniently painted gold and matched the decor perfectly! We draped 25 yards of black tulle {I’m pretty sure I bought almost everything they had at the fabric store!} and some white Christmas lights across the middle of the room to dress things up a little bit. You should have seen the guys when I told them what I wanted to do with the tulle. I don’t know how many times they said to me, “Just make sure you don’t block the game!” Clearly we had different priorities… 😉

I also had this crazy idea to hang 60+ balloons from the ceiling over the area where the happy couple would be opening gifts. I went in knowing this idea might possibly be a disaster, but I actually kind of loved how it turned out! {A special shout-out to my parents for letting me stick a million tacks in their ceiling to keep the balloons up there… the bride liked it, so it was totally worth it! 🙂 }

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw a sneak peek of the black and gold banner last week. I also shared a little peek of the centerpieces…

We happened to have a lot of mason jars around, so we dressed them up with some lace and ribbon, added some jewels for a little sparkle, and we were in business! {This is turning into the most feminine football party you’ve ever seen, right? 😉 }

But even more than pretty decorations or a football game, this day was about all of us joining to celebrate two people who love Jesus and want to spend the rest of their lives serving Him together. I love watching how Brittany and Jon are truly better together than they are separately and how their gifts and abilities compliment one another so well.

The cutest! And they’ll be married before you know it! I can hardly contain my glee! Thanks for letting me gush today, friends! Have a wonderful week!

Have you been to any wedding showers lately? I want to hear about them in the comments!

    That’s just perfect Abby! What a cute couple! I wholeheartedly agree with being both girly AND a Steelers fan and you proved that those things can go together perfectly in your party decor

      I thought this party would be right up your alley, Miss Emma! Did I see you got to go to the game in London recently? How fun! I am jealous! Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

    Okay, I am officially checking you off my friend list and removing your blog from my feed, LOL! I am from Baltimore and a huge Baltimore Raven’s fan and we all know the Steelers and the Raven’s are the biggest rivalry in the NFL. BTW, didn’t the Raven’s just beat the Steelers, LOL! With that being said, the invites are awesome and I love the couples theme at game time!

    1. justagirlabby says:

      OH NO!! Not the Ravens!!! 😉 I guess we can still be friends despite our differences, lol! Hope you’re having a great day, Katie!

    Such a fun wedding shower! I absolutely love the dual functionality of a feminine bridal shower, yet including the guys AND the game! I bet it was a blast. Such an exciting time when your younger sister gets married! Mine actually got married 10 months before I did…but, that’s ok, it was still fun! 🙂 Have fun planning!

      Thanks so much, friend! It was a really fun day! And 10 months apart– I bet your parents’ bank account loved that! Lol! 😉 Hope you’re having a wonderful day!

  6. This is such an adorable idea for a shower! Perfect for a couple of sports fans. And all the details are great!

      Thank you, Kim! It was far from traditional, but very “them!” 🙂 Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

  7. I loved how the balloons turned out! I was surprised your dad let you put all those tacks on, too! Then again, we’ve done way messier and way crazier things in that building with the middle schoolers. 😉

    1. justagirlabby says:

      Lol! I hear ya. It was actually my mom who said go for it, and he didn’t say anything, so I went with it! 🙂 The ceiling is textured, so those tiny holes aren’t too noticeable, right? 😉 It was great seeing you guys at the shower! Talk to you soon!

      ~Abby =)
